The Community Building Series (Day 1/30)
Yesterday I talked about why most projects fail without a real community.
But first…
What actually is a community?
Most people think it’s:
a Discord server, a Telegram group, or a bunch of members.
It’s not.
Those are just tools.
A real community is built on 3 things:
1. Shared Purpose
People need a reason to be there.
Not just I joined… but this is why I’m here.
2. Active Interaction
Not just messages… real conversations.
People replying, contributing, recognizing each other.
3. Sense of Belonging
When people feel seen and valued, they stay.
When they don’t… they leave quietly.
That’s why:
You can have 10,000 members and no real community
or
500 members and something powerful
Most projects chase numbers.
Real builders focus on people.
Miss this… and growth, engagement, and retention all become harder.
Tomorrow, I’ll break down why community is one of the most valuable assets a project can have (and why most ignore it until it’s too late).
