BORDER UPDATE | PAKISTAN – AFGHANISTAN ESCALATION (11–12 Oct 2025)

Here’s how the situation unfolded through the night, sector by sector:

🔹 1845 hrs — Kurram

▪️ 27 TTP militants eliminated by security forces in their hideouts

🔹 2120–2200 hrs — Gavi Sector, Kurram

▪️ Heavy clashes erupted along the Gavi border belt
▪️Small-arms exchanges escalated rapidly to artillery and ATGM fire
▪️Multiple Afghan posts engaged by Pakistani forces

🔹 2215–2300 hrs — Cross-Border Escalation

▪️ Afghan forces opened fire on several Pakistani posts from Kunar, Nangarhar, and Nuristan
▪️Pakistan responded with artillery, tanks, drones, and PAF jets
▪️Afghan mortar round struck Tiri village (Tirah) — one civilian martyred*, child injured
▪️Initial reports indicate two to three Pakistani soldiers martyred and several wounded

🔹 2300–0030 hrs — Air Operations Begin

▪️Pakistan Air Force launched precision airstrikes across border areas
▪️Targets included Helmand, Kandahar, Khost, Paktia, and Paktika provinces
▪️Multiple Afghan strongholds — Aziz, Rawat, and Naka posts — destroyed along with the HQ of the 2nd Kandak
▪️By midnight, 11 Afghan posts neutralized and 27 hostile targets destroyed
▪️Heavy explosions heard deep inside Afghan territory

🔹 0000–0100 hrs — Infiltration Attempts & Local Mobilisation

▪️ Tribal fighters of Kurram moved to assist security forces on the frontline
▪️Continuous artillery duels reported near Kharlachi and Manujaba Forts

🔹 0100–0130 hrs — Ceasefire Offer

▪️ Afghan Taliban Ministry of Defence announced cessation of attacks and requested a ceasefire
▪️Pakistan rejected the proposal, continuing strikes across the border belt
▪️ Barabcha sector saw heavy tank and artillery fire as operations expanded

🔹 0200–0400 hrs — Night Offensive Continues

▪️Pakistani artillery and air assets continued to pound Afghan positions through the night
▪️Key enemy sites at Barbcha, Ali Dost, Malgai Koh, Turkmanzai Top, and Kharachar Fort reportedly destroyed
▪️Afghan forces suffered major losses and withdrew from several forward posts

🔹 Diplomatic & Religious Reactions

▪️Grand Mufti of Oman Ahmed Al-Khalili called for restraint and unity among Muslim nations and recalled how the Muslim world was in awe when Pakistan humiliated India in the four day war
▪️ Kingdom of Saudi Arabia expressed concern and urged both sides to avoid escalation
▪️ Pakistan’s Foreign Office lodged a protest over the India–Afghanistan joint statement issued in New Delhi (10 Oct), reiterating that Afghan soil must not be used against Pakistan

🔹 Current Status (as of 12 Oct morning)

▪️Situation remains tense but under control on Pakistan’s side
▪️ PAF jets and artillery units remain on high alert
▪️Cross-border fire reportedly subsided after 0400 hrs, but heightened vigilance continues along the western frontier

The Islamic Republic of Pakistan and The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia have signed a Historic Strategic Mutual Defence Agreement (SMDA)

Building on the historic partnership extending for nearly eight decades, based on the bonds of brotherhood and Islamic solidarity, as well as shared strategic interests and close defense cooperation between the two countries, HRH Prince Mohammed bin Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud, Crown Prince and Prime Minister and His Excellency Mr. Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif, Prime Minister of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan signed the “Strategic Mutual Defense Agreement”(SMDA).

This agreement reflects the shared commitment of both nations to enhance security and to achieve security and peace in the region and the world. It aims to develop aspects of defense cooperation between the two countries and strengthen joint deterrence against any aggression.

The agreement states that any aggression against either country shall be considered an aggression against both.

I extend my heartfelt felicitations to the nation on completion of 78 years of independence of Pakistan.

I pay tribute to Father of the Nation, Quaid-i-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah, and the Thinker of Pakistan, Allama Muhammad Iqbal, who along with other resolute leaders and workers of the Independence Movement united the nation under one vision, one mission and one goal. Their relentless efforts changed the course of the history with the establishment of an independent, ideological state, thus realizing a seemingly impossible dream into a reality.

The past 78 years tell a tale of resilience, strong faith and a hope of a bright future when as a nation, we braved several difficult challenges. Despite this, Pakistan achieved a series of milestones of success and achievements in every field.

Pakistan’s historic victory in Marka-e-Haq during the four-day war imposed by India has not only reinforced the sanctity of our freedom, but has also instilled a renewed sense of ambition and national spirit in the hearts of our people, magnifying the pride and fervour of this Independence Day.

With the blessings of Almighty Allah, our brave armed forces revived their past glory and shattered the false pride of enemy by acting as a Bunyan-um-Marsoos – a solid fortified wall. The military capability, valour and faith of our brave soldiers and air warriors forced the enemy to kneel down. We pay tribute to the martyrs who sacrificed their lives for the sake of our freedom and offer prayers for the elevation of their ranks in eternal life.

It was not merely a military conquest, but also the victory of the validation of a Two-Nation Theory, which is the foundation of our dear homeland. With same passion, we stand vigilant to defend and safeguard our national interests including water resources.

While expressing our resolve to protect Pakistan’s sovereignty, we as a peaceful nation, reiterate our belief in the principles of peaceful coexistence and resolving the regional and global issues through dialogue and diplomacy. India also needs to demonstrate the same will for the resolution of all disputes, including the Jammu and Kashmir dispute.

Our government has placed the welfare of the common man at the forefront of its agenda. In this regard, a key initiative has been the substantial reduction in electricity tariffs, extending across the board relief to households as well as industries.

I reaffirm my resolve to mobilise all available resources to ensure that the country effectively meets the emerging economic, industrial, and technological challenges of the present era.

Like military prowess, a strong and stable economy is also inevitable for an impregnable national defence and sovereignty, for which we all need to demonstrate the spirit of Marka-e-Haq and the Pakistan Movement.

On this day, I call upon all political forces and citizens to unite in the spirit of 1947 and together build a strong and prosperous Pakistan for generations to come.

Pakistan unequivocally condemns, the recent act of storming of the Al-Aqsa Mosque by Israeli ministers, accompanied by settler groups and shielded by Israeli police.

This sacrilege against one of Islam’s holiest sites is not only an affront to Muslims worldwide but also a direct assault on international law and the collective conscience of humanity.

Such systematic provocations by the occupying power, coupled with reckless calls for annexation, imperils the prospects for peace.

Israel’s shameless actions are deliberately inflaming tensions in Palestine and the wider region, pushing the Middle East closer to further instability and conflict.

Pakistan reiterates its urgent call for an immediate ceasefire, an end to all acts of aggression, and the revival of a credible peace process leading to an independent and viable State of Palestine, with Al-Quds Al-Sharif as its capital, in accordance with international law and relevant UN resolutions.
