@erikajanesqu I agree. Nationality shouldn't be the reason why an artist gets pushed into the spotlight. It should be based on their abilities and the music that the produce #MUS2011F20
@sharonburge I understand the concept of enforcing a quota but I also think that people are going to listen to whatever music and musicians that they like, regardless of their nationality #MUS2011F20
It is important to encourage Canadian music but I don’t think that it is necessary to enforce a quota on the amount of music. In an age of streaming, people are going to listen to whatever interests them the most, not just what is pushed at them. #MUS2011F20
@HVLEYSLVTER#MUS2011F20 In our current COVID climate, I find myself missing the times when I could go out and listen to live music and experience the atmosphere of people gathering around and interacting with the band which is something I can't get from listening to a recording.
@dibakermun#MUS2011F20 I think that what makes a live concert so special is there is no going back and fixing up your mistakes and editing the final product. When you get out on stage and play your music, the energy that the crowd gives is something that can't be replicated by a recording.
#MUS2011F20 The atmosphere at a live concert makes the music come alive and the musicians can feed off of that energy and make their music really pop. I think the reason people would rather listen to recorded music instead because they can listen to it whenever they want.
@Shea_89#MUS2011F20 I think that these covers help gain recognition for the song. Some people who have heard the cover may be inclined to listen to the original version too.
@dag98mun#MUS2011F20 I think that the altered version definitely has value. Just because it is not what the song was originally intended to be does not make it "schlock" to just be tossed aside.
I don’t think that this music can just be dismissed because they were covered by white artists. A lot of artists cover songs and in some cases, that is what makes them popular. I don’t think the fact that a white artist that covered the song should invalidate it. #MUS2011F20
@alexnic2001 @johnloveless11#MUS2011F20 A lot of music today sounds so similar that there is no real uniqueness to any artists. Charles really made a name for himself by sounding different than his peers
#MUS2011F20 I think Ray Charles used a breaking voice to stand out as a singer. So many people sing in the same style, and Charles used a breaking voice to create his own recognizable style. People gravitated towards his music because it was something different and intriguing.
@Provencher34 I agree. In a world where we have so much at our fingertips, it can be hard to stay focused on one piece of music for an extended period of time. I am always working harder myself to not get sucked into the vortex of wanting new music all the time. #MUS2011F20
@MatthewHoyles3 I agree. Through streaming music, I have found music that I would never have heard before. As a child, I remember getting new CD's for Christmas, but now as soon as they are released, anyone can have access to them. It's awesome! #MUS2011F20
#MUS2011F20 The development of new technologies has made a wide variety of music available to so many people instantly. The kinds of music people listen to has become less about what is on the radio and more about what actually interests them and what they identify with.
#MUS2011F20 The music industry has created false needs. But as more and more people are electing to stream music instead of listening to the radio, their control of what we are listening to is beginning to loosen.
