Always appreciate the maps and updates from Ben. I’ll explain what this could mean for the upcoming hurricane season during my weekly video discussion on Monday.
#sponsored The unbelievable destruction of #Hurricane MELISSA stays with me. The wind damage was incredible—the worst I’ve seen in any hurricane. And it got me thinking what will happen when such a storm strikes the US.
The Jamaicans build their homes solid. Many are concrete. And that no doubt helped some of them survive MELISSA’s winds. But, many roofs tore off—even from good houses. That’s common in severe hurricanes—the roof is a vulnerable point.
So, when I built my home, I prioritized the roof—& went with a custom-made, standing-seam metal roof, which is the most hurricane-resistant kind. I want to know it’ll stay on in crazy winds.
And now I’m on a mission to ensure my neighbors in Hurricane Country have what I have—a solid roof & peace of mind.
That’s why I’ve started working with Only Metal Roofs in #Florida. They provide what everyone in Hurricane Country should have: a custom-produced, hurricane-tough metal roof. These guys are great—real craftsmen, in business for over 40 years, manufacturing these top-quality roofs right here in the USA. Lots of folks think they can’t afford metal. Are you one of them? Don’t think that. Only Metal Roofs makes it affordable: no money down, no interest, & no payments for the first 12 months.
So, if you live in Hurricane Country & you don’t have a top-grade metal roof, it's time to fix that. When the next MELISSA comes knocking, you want to be ready for it. Call Only Metal Roofs to start the conversation & get an estimate.

@MaxVelocityWX@amarkowitzWX As I look for work in the field, it's becoming more and more obvious that social media is where it's going. Still hard to get an actual job in weather right now. Something to keep in mind I guess.
September 18, 2026, marks 100 years since the Great Miami Hurricane of 1926. A century later, it remains one of the most impactful hurricanes ever to strike South Florida and serves as a reminder of the region's vulnerability to major hurricanes. #FLwx
@BenNollWeather 2015 produced 11 named storms while 1997 produced I believe 7 in the Atlantic that year, so even with a record breaking El Nino, 11-13 named storms wouldn't suprise me along with 2-3 majors, but we shall see.
It’s official: El Niño has arrived… and odds are it may be the strongest in over a century! So how does it compare to other strong El Niño events? And what kind of impacts can we expect in Hurricane Season and into the winter in #Florida and along the Gulf Coast. Here’s a quick breakdown. #ElNino #HurricaneSeason #SevereWeather
@tbrite89 Also, I feel a lot of the storms could form close to home. I feel any MDR storms are gonna be ripped apart. If we get a major storm or two near us this year we could get a Besty or Joaquin type of situation.
@HedgeHider1978@MaxVelocityWX It has, it's just been quite a while. Last time that happened was 2015. Prior to that I think just a little before that 2013 was also another one.
From a few days ago, but as we can see to no suprise tropical cyclone development is not occurring as we start hurricane season, however to much disappointment the extra moisture for the past week seems to have been a bust. Always watch model trends.
@MattDevittWX Our worst hurricane season in SWFL history in 2022 wasn't too far off, only 14 names that year, and of the hurricanes, only 2 major hurricanes of category 3+. We all know how that turned out for us.
The peak of the spring severe season is coming to a close while hurricane season begins on Monday.
What roles do tornadoes play during hurricane season? In 2024, it was a big one.
@DrRickKnabb explains. @mikebettes@realalexwilson@weatherchannel
@MattDevittWX Last year the GFS was terrible, even so it's been known to spin up ghost storms that never happen. We wouldn't be able to peacefully live here if the amount of storms it has spun up each season actually happened.
@iCyclone@RyanToemmes@FORTIFIEDHOME I found it crazy that the worst hurricane in terms of wind damage was Andrew in 1992 and the deadliest hurricane since the 1930s in Florida in terms of storm surge Ian happened in 2022. I would like to say such storms only happen once in a generation, but wouldn't bet on it.
