The credit for forcing the evil monstrous tyrant govts of USrael to agree to withdraw all its genocidal threats and force it to agree to a humiliating ceasefire goes only and only to the brave people of Iran who endured resiliently weeks of intense bombing. If we hide that fact by giving credit mainly to message carriers, that is a huge insult to the brave people of Iran. the carriers played a small role and if it had not been them, it would have been many other carriers. it was iran's resolve that ended this war, not the message carrying. and if we especially heap praise on the two main architects of an illegitimate regime, it will give them the legitimacy they crave to cover their illegitimacy. it will also mean we have no regard not just for the people of Iran's suffering but also for that of the people of Pk who suffer this regime on an on-going basis.

Two wars in our region-one each by US and us. While the US one is blatantly illegal, the legality of our one is far from clear too.

There is a difference btw self-defense against a state attack and against non-state actor attacks. The former occur clearly from across the border by the state using its own human/material resources.

But non-state attacks on us originate from our own soil and are done by even our own citizens with a mix of local and cross-border resources. So the blame is shared. If AFG has failed to eradicate TTP from its soil, so have we from our soil. Our failure is bigger as our army is much stronger than both TTP and AFG one. The world's fifth biggest army should be able to defeat a rag-a-tag group even if AFG is not cooperating. So the self-defence provisions in UN law against state acts dont easily stretch to non-state acts.

History makes things more dicey. AFG never bombed Pak when AFG taliban were based on Pak soil and used it to attack afg while we used to protest loudly against US drone attacks.

Beyond legality, their practical utility is unclear. Even threats by US in 2001 did not make AFG Taliban act against Al-qaeda and its unclear if pak attacks will make them do so against TTP. Even if they do, TTP could vanish in mountains on AF-pak border and continue its attacks. So the best strategy is to secure our own soil and coordinate with other regional states to choke AFG Taliban to act against terrorists on its soil.
