As President Trump stated, extraordinary progress has been made in just one year: a ceasefire that ended large-scale war; the return of all living hostages and the remains of the deceased; historic increases in humanitarian aid and improved nutrition across Gaza; and a roadmap to demilitarize, deradicalize, and rebuild Gaza, which will enable a future of peace and prosperity for Palestinians, and lasting security for the people of Israel.
Our mission is hard, and the work ahead will not be easy. But with the strong support of our international partners, including the UAE, the EU, and others, we are confident that we can succeed and turn the plan’s vision into reality.
The UN voted in favour of a resolution to formally phase out the commonly used 16th century Mercato world map. The resolution rightfully acknowledges that the map’s distortions contribute to a ‘symbolic minimisation’ of Africa, perpetuating historical biases. The resolution encourages governments, schools, tech companies and international organizations to use the Equal Earth projection going forward, which depicts Africa and other continents accurately. In the words of Togo’s foreign minister Robert Dussey who spearheaded the resolution, "a fair world begins with a fair map."

The coup attempt in Niger revealed a fact in which Russia still has the capacity to protect its allies, while the Sahel alliance appeared far less capable of responding to crises. But tactical victories cannot hide the region’s growing security challenges.

The Sudanese Paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF) may have enabled a new Central African Republic (CAR) rebel Alliance's assault against he CAR military and allied Russian Wagner Group forces in a town on the Sudanese border, which could complicate the CAR's role in Emirati-RSF supply lines.

Ethiopian Forces Advance in Sudan’s Um Barakit Border Sector as Army Victories in North Kordofan Increase Pressure on UAE-Backed Rapid Support Militia
Reliable sources told Sudanese Echo that Ethiopian forces advanced early on Saturday, August 1, 2026, into the Um Barakit sector along Sudan’s eastern border, raising fears of renewed military tensions in the Al-Fashaga area of Gedaref State.
The sources said the move appears to be part of Ethiopia’s growing role in supporting the UAE-backed Rapid Support Militia, including by opening training camps on Ethiopian territory and facilitating the use of strategic drones and heavy artillery.
They added that this support became particularly evident during the occupation of the border town of Kurmuk, when Ethiopia reportedly assisted the Rapid Support Militia and the Sudan People’s Liberation Movement-North faction led by Abdelaziz al-Hilu, while attempting to obstruct the Sudanese Armed Forces’ efforts to recapture the town.
The latest Ethiopian movement is believed to have taken place under UAE direction or coordination in response to the recent battlefield victories achieved by the Sudanese Armed Forces and allied forces in North Kordofan.
The apparent objective is to open a new front in eastern Sudan, divert military resources away from the Kordofan axis, slow the army’s advance and give the Rapid Support Militia an opportunity to regroup after losing several strategic positions.
The development follows a Reuters investigation published on February 10, 2026, which revealed the existence of a secret camp inside Ethiopia used to train thousands of fighters for the Rapid Support Militia. The investigation also documented the development of facilities linked to drone operations and military supply routes near the Sudanese border.
On May 5, 2026, Sudanese army spokesperson Brigadier General Asim Awad Abdel Wahab also said the Armed Forces possessed evidence that drones used in attacks against Sudanese targets had been launched from Ethiopia’s Bahir Dar airport. He described the use of Ethiopian territory for the attacks as a direct act of aggression against Sudan.
The movement in the Um Barakit sector further highlights the expanding regional consequences of the UAE’s support for the Rapid Support Militia. As the militia loses ground in North Kordofan, Abu Dhabi appears to be relying on neighboring countries to open new pressure points, stretch the Sudanese army across multiple fronts and prevent it from concentrating its forces against the militia.

Chemical weapons, terrorists, and Iran: Trump is ignoring America’s next nightmare | OP-ED by Khalid Omer Yousif, a Sudanese political leader and former minister of Cabinet affairs in Sudan’s civilian-led transitional government (2019–2021). https://t.co/dOFAQhvJpL
Some recent commentary and reports have mischaracterized current efforts to negotiate a humanitarian truce and peace plan for Sudan. Recent claims that key issues have been fully accepted are inaccurate, as are claims that there is only a single issue remaining. We continue discussions and to press the parties on specific proposals, with multiple substantive issues yet to be accepted and/or that have been outright rejected. Any official agreement would be formally announced. Meanwhile, public comments, speculation, or alleged documents showing agreement or 'settled' issues are neither official nor helpful. Our focus remains on facilitating serious, constructive engagement and dialogue that can deliver a humanitarian truce and a plan for a comprehensive and lasting peace and political transition in Sudan.
What I struggle with in the whole question of Sudan's use of chemical weapons is the investigation. It was the US that made the accusation and has the intel, not the OCPW. And yet the US refuses to deploy its inspectors to Sudan, as requested by Sudanese authorities, and instead wants the OCPW to go in. Ultimately, this issue is just another obstacle in trying to end the war and not the leverage point that some in Washington thought it would be. https://t.co/hpjHw6ETDX
1. Axis-aligned media are boasting about the Quranic verse chosen for the Saudi delegation at Khamenei's funeral: Aal 'Imran 3:13, the Battle of Badr verse describing "one host fighting in the way of God, and another disbelieving." i.e, Saudis as the disbeliever faction. Even as they accept condolences, they are explicitly drawing a line in the sand to remind Riyadh that they view them on the outside, categorized as the enemy.

NEW | The United States imposed additional sanctions on networks linked to the RSF and SAF for their roles in Sudan’s civil war, although the sanctions are unlikely to change the RSF’s and SAF’s maximalist stances.
The sanctions could undermine US-led peace efforts, as the SAF will likely view them as being biased against the SAF due to the lack of direct action against the RSF. 🧵⬇️
