ایک بار جنرل عاصم منیر نے بغیر پیشگی اطلاع ایک دور افتادہ علاقے میں تعینات یونٹ کا دورہ کیا۔ معمول کے مطابق افسران متحرک ہو گئے، مگر اُن کی نظر ایک نوجوان سپاہی پر پڑی جو خاموشی سے اپنی ڈیوٹی انجام دے رہا تھا۔
جنرل عاصم منیر اُس کے پاس رُکے، حال پوچھا اور سادہ لہجے میں کہا:
“تم یہاں کس مقصد کے لیے کھڑے ہو؟”
سپاہی نے پُراعتماد انداز میں جواب دیا:
“سر! اس لیے کہ میرا ملک محفوظ رہے، چاہے مجھے یہاں اکیلا ہی کیوں نہ کھڑا رہنا پڑے۔”
یہ جواب سن کر جنرل عاصم منیر چند لمحے خاموش رہے، پھر اُس سپاہی کے کندھے پر ہاتھ رکھ کر کہا:
“پاکستان تم جیسے سپاہیوں کی وجہ سے مضبوط ہے۔”
بعد ازاں اُنہوں نے کمانڈنگ افسر کو ہدایت دی کہ:
جوانوں کی فلاح اور سہولت کو اولین ترجیح دی جائے
فرنٹ لائن پر موجود سپاہی کو کبھی تنہا محسوس نہ ہونے دیا جائے
یہ واقعہ فوج کے اندر یہ پیغام دے گیا کہ قیادت صرف حکم دینے کا نام نہیں، بلکہ سپاہی کی عزت اور حوصلہ بڑھانا بھی قیادت کا فرض ہے۔
