Prairie strips are a farm conservation practice that requires minimal intervention and delivers huge benefits
By converting 10% of cropland to native prairie, farmers can reduce soil loss by 95%, total phosphorous loss by 90%, and total nitrogen loss by 85%
A quick summary:
@karinstark79 @olympiayarger So sorry to hear about your disappointment. In my experience a heavy fleabane presence is an indicator of a history of herbicide use and related soil degradation, especially soil biology. It's the weed that can grow when a lot of other things can't. Can you put biology prep out?
@ManuSaunders Also, as a tennis tragic I recently asked it to provide the rules for the United Cup. It returned nil results. Seems like low hanging fruit to me but it obviously also has problems with recency.
An agroforestry version of a rubber tree farm.
Instead of the usual stands of rubber trees in a sea of bare soil, this farm planted an understory of pineapple with hardwood trees mixed in.
Pineapples provide short-term revenue, and the hardwoods generate a final windfall.

This diagram is helpful for thinking about what happens to #covercrop OM and N, and how termination timing and maturity affect the fate. One can better match to management goals. #killontime
