The land of bikes, bureaucracy and beautiful nonsense
Documenting the weird things the Dutch and their government get up to for the rest of the world to enjoy.
Amsterdam just voted to raise the tourist tax from 12,5 to 20% , this is on top of the national tax that went from 9 to 21% earlier this year.
This means tourists will pay 41% tax to visit Amsterdam.. one of the highest in the world.
The dutch way to promote tourism 🫣
The Netherlands, where a few overhanging branches can close a motorway lane for weeks because of a blocked camera.
So the rush-hour lane stays shut. Traffic jams follow.
The obvious fix? Prune them.
The problem : A ecologist has to asses the situation first. Only then the work can be scheduled. Then the contractor can set up road closures. Then, maybe, someone cuts a branch.
Rijkswaterstaat: “That’s just how it is in the Netherlands if you want to prune.”
The kicker : Same thing happened last year.

Elon Musk is prorably the most important tech person and entrepreneur in the world for our country. By shutting down Russia’s illegal use of Starlink on Ukrainian territory, @elonmusk and @SpaceX protected our air defense, saved our air force, and spared thousands of civilian lives. This is an invaluable contribution to our defense, and every Ukrainian is deeply grateful to him for it.

the house approved , and it is now in the senate. there already have been some discussions there , but watching those really makes me want to cry. the people making important decissions there are really really uninformed and not subject experts and do not see a problem with it....
voting has been posponed for now , but to me it looks like some kind of political game. Problem is it already spooks away investors , and posponing the vote only extended the uncertainty
for me personally it would mean i'd have to sell all my assets before 2028 because if the share price would fall between januari 1st and the tax due date i wouldn't be able to meet that obligation. not even talking about killing the compounding effect.
it sure is. it is one of the reasons in the end we decided not to go to Sweden on our summer holiday because of the sparsely build out supercharger network (not tesla's fault) reading this i feel like dodging a bullet because i wouldn't want to get stuck if anything broke on my tesla while there and there wouldn't be a mechanic available. if is frustrating for you as swedes as well i can imagine , like how i feel about our dutch financial policies (tax on unrealised gains).
Cool to see @SpaceX will recover starship.
Was curious where it would end up if left afloat so asked our ocean modellers to run some scenarios, which show it could have ended up in Australia, South Africa or even India.
I do get some negative comments about my Starship coverage. Here are my thoughts on why what SpaceX is doing is so important to humanity, and this is just focusing on what they’ve already done, not interplanetary colonization, etc.
We’re at our best when we push our limits.
@elonmusk@NUnl Please be carefull and take your security serious if you come down this way. the Netherlands has been infested by media brainwashed lefties that are anti @elonmusk.
@VVD@eelcoheinen Rust in je portomonee , maar ik duw je wel box 3 vermogens winst belasting door je strot. Mijn stem krijgen jullie in ieder geval nooit meer
