@drnaomi I've seen a hoarder house first hand (and the fallout after the fire department needed to respond). The one I saw was nothing but old newspapers, magazines and actual trash. Hoarding has serious mental illness implications, rich or poor.

@ATinyGreenCell Actinomycete PCR is challenged by high G+C DNA. Our colony screens are done using cells ground in DMSO (adapted: doi: 10.1016/s0167-7012(02)00235-x.. 2003 Jun;53(3):401-3.J Microbiol Methods). Then PCR is done using FailSafe Premixed buffers.
@wwwplumcom Like others have said, this is most likely an actinomycete. To obtain even growth, use a sterile, low volume mortar and pestle and grind to an even suspension- then save directly as a cryostock or use to sub culture. We do this all the time with environmental isolates.
