If @GregAbbott_TX and @GovRonDeSantis can keep books out of schools, they can DEFINITELY do something about guns. But we all know the real truth: they don't actually care.
There's a real role here for private and corporate philanthropy. So much philanthropy on the climate side is BS signaling. But putting real money towards technologies that we will need, but that are too risky for investors and ignored by politicians, could pay off.
Politicians acting aberrantly is newsworthy.
But when that's the one reliable path new lawmakers have for getting attention, it becomes an incentive for them to act aberrantly, and so you get more of them doing it.
