My friend, I think your use of the term “atheist” is too nuanced to be useful or meaningful in your communications. I’d humbly suggest you might answer these questions more generally by saying, perhaps, I don’t know.

A man that I’ve great respect for (despite the fact that he called me an idiot in response to one of my inquiries of him) wrote a number of books that introduced me to epistemological thought processes. I credit @nntaleb with granting me tremendous freedom, both in terms of my vocation and my faith, by teaching me the power of these four words: I do not know. When asked of my faith, I intentionally answer that I am a follower of Christ. I’m hesitant in some ways to call myself a Christian, because like you, I do not believe the Old Testament is literally true. Further, I don’t believe Paul’s writings are necessarily The Word of God, nor am I focused on church going and tithing, etc. I am, by many accounts, a heretic.

But my faith is my own and my faith by definition allows me to say “I don’t know.” Call yourself what you like, of course, but don’t let others box you into a label. I know from reading your work and following your voice, no such box would be accurate.

That “nearly 89% of deaths from Islamist terrorists attacks occurred in Muslim majority countries,” if true, reveals some profound truths that undermine your defense of Islam:

1. Very much like the evil movements of Stalin and Mao, these murderers are so inflamed by their hate that don’t mind killing their own innocent neighbors.

2. The countries in which they operate are complicit if not supportive of their hate and criminal networks.

3. Islam as the “majority” in these countries does nothing to rebuke or stop the evil of these terrorists, which proves at a minimum that these muslims do not fundamentally disapprove of the murders, and more likely death and murder is an acceptable part of islamic culture.

How do you as (presumably) a muslim man admit that 89% of the murders in question are against fellow muslims and still feel the moral authority to complain about deaths of “the innocent” in Gaza or the West Bank? By your own statistic, 89% of those deaths come from Hamas or other Islamofascists!  “Why do you look at the speck of sawdust in your brother’s eye and pay no attention to the plank in your own eye?” Your defense of “the victims” is obvious gaslighting. If you truly care about the victims, rebuke your islamic leaders and your islamic neighbors and your religion itself. Does not your heart dive you to make an honest assessment of Islam in the world? Are you lying to yourself and your family because you’ve been conditioned to do so, conditioned to hate, conditioned to ignore truth? Think for yourself man!

Islam is a death cult & I believe a major vessel for evil around the world. It is very difficult but I am admonished to hate the sin but love the sinner, and pray for my enemies. Islam is such a powerful distributor of evil because their teachings do NOT include such admonitions. These are battles of ideals, philosophies, and faith. And the “empathetic” leftists, again, defend the ideals of hate and then in textbook narcissistic behavior, they criticize those who don’t fall in line as being hateful. They’ve always done this. From the German Marxists and Anarchists in the middle late part of the 19th century, who would beat and kill workers who refused to align with their “revolutions” to the Soviet and Chinese communists that murdered millions as a part their efforts to seize power for their “utopia.” These movements and today’s Islam (& the defenders of Islam) widely practices deception and gaslighting as it is their means to control their fellow man.
