Moving my family across the country, leaving corporate, starting a business, and “retiring” my wife in the same month was challenging.
But our Sunday mornings look like this now. Totally worth it.
Knowledge workers can make more money doing the tasks of a junior/entry-level employee
vs.
Sticking at that corporate job, climbing the ladder into management/leadership.
You're probably 15 hours of learning Claude code and Cowork away from turning this into a reality for yourself.
@maxwellfinn I’ve seen agencies do the same thing with websites and ad accounts. It’s seems downright criminal to me. Also guaranteed way to nuke any brand or word of mouth for your company
The worst is when these owners purchase leads from third-party aggregators instead of investing in brand.
Your brand recognition, word of mouth, organic leads, and LTV are neutralized. And you have no proprietary lead flow.
One of the biggest leading indicators I’ve seen over the last decade on if a business will make it or not.
Keep your goals confidential (especially early on).
I made >$200k with a side business before telling anyone other than my wife.
When we finally announced it to friends and family, we told them all at once:
1. She was retiring to stay home with our son
2. I was quitting my corporate job
3. I had started my own business
4. We were selling our house in Texas
5. We were moving to Colorado
Stop sharing every single hope, dream, or idea with people. Just go do it.
@jpdotzip Spent a decade growing my skills before doing my own thing.
Definitely waited too long, but the skills and experiences gained are a major advantage.
@tannerdripjobs My wife hit with a “dad are you watching?” at my son’s gymnastics class once when he was looking my way trying to show me flip.
I’ve left my phone in the car every week since. Absolute gut punch
@bobbyvickers Taking care of “wake up” and “bed time” routines helps a ton in my experience.
Then sprint like hell during the hours in between. And decide if you want to wake up before everyone and work more, or stay up after they’re all asleep.
@theppcdude The amount of home service businesses I see with <10% COM and/or >$9:1 ROAS that don’t increase ad spend (but still complain about growth) is baffling to me.
