"When an early round of Islamabad talks collapsed, Qatar kept the process breathing, albeit quietly and in the shadows. Its jets shuttled between Doha and Tehran. Qatari Prime Minister Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani worked the phones with the Trump administration.
Rather than chase a grand bargain still out of reach, Doha pursued its diplomacy of small steps. The memorandum of understanding now on the table is modest, and it will take weeks, perhaps months, to grow into anything larger.
But it eases pressure on shipping lanes and supply chains and delivers the one thing the region had lacked: diplomatic momentum in a nearly frozen conflict"

Rarely has a geopolitical roll of the dice gone so rapidly wrong. Netanyahu played on Trump’s vanity to help convince him to start this war. That same vanity will now be deaf to any future bridges Netanyahu might try to sell.” My column https://t.co/nCEDvdTm1J
Must read piece on how a month-long diplomatic effort involving the United States, Iran, Qatar and Pakistan led to US Iran MoU, arguing that Qatar played a key role in keeping the process on track.
Article argues that Qatar’s involvement intensified in mid-May after negotiations stalled. The article notes that a Qatari delegation led by HE Ali Al Thawadi, Minister at the Prime Minister's Office for Strategic Affairs, and Hamad al-Kubaisi secretly travelled to Tehran, while Qatar worked closely with Pakistan, Egypt and Türkiye.
The report notes that Qatar leveraged its experience as a diplomatic intermediary between Washington and adversaries such as Hamas, the Taliban and Venezuela. One Western diplomat is quoted as saying: “The Pakistanis were well briefed and the face of the process [...] but the Qataris quietly did most of the heavy lifting to bridge the two sides”.
Pakistani and Arab diplomats, HH the Amir, Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, UAE’ President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed al-Nahyan and Pakistan’s military chief all put in calls to President Trump to urge him against more attacks.
Qataris threatened to walk away after the Iranians continued to push for tweaks to the language. Throughout the process Ghalibaf Araghchi continued discussions with mediators, while lower-level US and Iranian officials held talks in Doha.

The ceasefire agreement with Iran with the opening of the Strait of Hormuz is welcome news. Democrats should support it. I am glad it includes a provision for mutual respect of the US & Iran's sovereignty so we do not launch a dumb war of choice again.
The war was a costly lesson for the US. As expected, Trump failed to bring about regime change. The terms seem no better than what Obama secured under the JCPOA nearly a decade ago. America lost 14 precious service members and wasted billions of dollars on this foolish endeavor.
But today, we can be relieved that gas and food costs will start coming down for Americans. And that no more American or civilian lives will be lost.
It also shows that when the Congress votes to end war --as we did last week -- it can be a wake up call for the President to listen to the anti-war sentiments of the American people.
Following intensive talks, we are pleased to announce that the Peace Deal between the United States of America and Islamic Republic of Iran has been REACHED. Both sides have declared the immediate and permanent termination of military operations on all fronts, including in Lebanon.
The official signing ceremony will be on Friday, 19 June in Switzerland.
We would like to thank the United States of America and the Islamic Republic of Iran for their commitment to finding a diplomatic solution to the conflict. We would also like to extend our sincere appreciation to our brothers in this mediation effort, the great leadership of State of Qatar, for their support in reaching this agreement. I would also especially thank the visionary leadership of Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and Republic of Türkiye for their immense contributions in this regard.
With the agreement now in place, mediators will facilitate a series of meetings this week. These pre-implementation discussions will lay the foundation for the technical talks and the official signing ceremony.

@Abukar_Arman@tparsi@WajahatAli@Abukar_Arman indeed we are experiencing the acceleration fracture of Zionism and the rapid erosion of support, particularly younger generations.
It’s a Trumpian World Cup for racism — why don’t those who condemned Qatar 2022 say so?
My piece for The Guardian on the blatant hypocrisy and double standards on full display. https://t.co/NKmtaTF2bH
I have fought the neocons and warmongers in Washington for more than 25 years. Throughout, they have tried to silence, discredit, slander, and cancel me. Only recently, however, have they tried to deport me.
At least, that appears to have been the aim of a hit piece in Bari Weiss’s The Free Press, which claimed that Marco Rubio’s State Department was “investigating” me for allegedly seeking to “undermine the U.S.”—presumably because of my opposition to war with Iran.
Yet just hours later, the State Department issued a statement to reporters clarifying that “the State Department has no plans to revoke the green card of Mr. Parsi at this time.” Nor did it provide any confirmation for the central premise of the Free Press story—that an investigation of me existed in the first place.
So here’s what I think happened.

I have been arguing since Russia-Ukraine war that #Turkiye is US' *most important strategic ally.*
Now that it established prominance in z Horn with US consent it became more important than UK & Israel.
Why is Turkiye that important?
