@mfloresRWS392 Hey Flores,
I think this is a very interesting topic for your group's report. I would love to learn about an engineering failure in the Apollo 13 mission as I am very fascinated with NASA's space missions. Very excited for your group's project.
Green's video talked about engineering failures among bridges. My group will be writing a report on Washington state's Tacoma Narrows Bridge failure. In the video, Green discusses this Bridge failure so it holds very helpful information for my group's project. #RHUB392
After finishing the readings I found the methodology section in the "How to Write an Engineering report" article to be one of the most involved piece of writing in my report. I will make sure to be thoroughly detailed in the methodology section. #RHUB392
@victorreyesSDSU Hey Victor, I completely agree with you that these failures in engineering are essential for other engineers to understand in order to make improvements to these engineering processes. Without previous failure there can be no room for reflection and future corrections.
The video explained how there can be no growth or self reflection without failure. There is also no sense of risk taken or liability in engineering without failure. For example, corrections can be made to a bridge by analyzing what caused it to fail. #RHUB392
The "Ethics in Technical Communication" reading taught me a lot about what ethics really is; how it is important to make sure that when I am put in a situation where I have to use technical communication in the appropriate fashion I should integrate ethics in my writing.#RHUB392
@KhalidB49313685 Hi Khalid, that's a great graphic to use! Especially when explaining the purpose of the plank of wood and visually showing the readers how to use it. I'm doing my written instructions on flat tires as well and this inspires me to use a similar graphic for my topic.
This graphic is a picture of a lug wrench. It is helpful for my written instructions because it is one of the tools required for the process under the "EQUIPMENT" section. It helps the readers visualize the tool that they will need to remove and replace the flat tire.#RHUB392
After reading section 2.2 I learned that in professional writing there are 7 factors contributing to a strong professional style known as the 7 C's which include being clear, coherent, concise, concrete, correct, complete, and courteous in your writing. #RHUB392
@JohnHaysRWS392 Hey John,
I agree that special notices such as the warnings you referred to are very effective in grabbing the reader's immediate attention. I commented on the note for the brake caliper and pad removal as notes like that are helpful and grab attention to the reader as well.
For the example titled, βRemoving the Brake Caliper and Brake Padsβ, the writer included a note at the bottom of the written instructions that gave the audience important information about the process. It was not explicitly stated in the steps but they noted it because-

What stood out to me about this writing instruction section is the different kind of structures and formats for steps of the instructions. I learned about the 5 different formats for steps and it will help me decide which format I need for my written instructions. #RHUB392
@NicholasTaboga Hi Nicholas, I agree that the video helped us in our understanding of how to make effective technical writing description conclusions. Conclusions can be some of the most essential components of a description and taking into account all 4 of the parts described is very important.
After watching conclusions/recommendations I found that I need to summarize the function and purpose of the complex process I am describing in a clear and simplified manner so that the reader can understand the entirety of my description just by reading my conclusion. #RHUB392
@Eyraz11 Hello Eyra,
I agree that this image would be extremely helpful to visualize the parts of a piano you refer to. I am quite interested myself with how a piano's mechanical components work together to create such a great sound. I'm looking forward to learn that from the description.
This image is important because it is a milling machine tool that I will be discussing in my technical writing description and it helps the reader visualize what mechanical parts I refer to in the machine in my description. #RHUB392
After reading the two articles about visual communication, I learned how the use of graphic elements and their components such as line, color, shape, and other components can help me in my technical writing descriptions to clearly and effectively communicate my messages. #RHUB392
