@WGuzman2001 Hi Walter, I completely agree with you that lack of inspection is the common link between the the failures mentioned in the video. These failures could have been avoided if things were done the correct way. #RHUB392
@DavidRoRWS Hi David, I think this image is very detailed and helpful to understanding the layout. Chernobyl was my team’s second option so I’m excited about reading your report. #RHUB392
This picture was taken after the Hyatt Regency tragedy in 1981. 114 people lost their lives due to something that could have been prevented. As a civil engineer I have to remember that I’m designing and building for real human beings and that their safety is mypriority. #RHUB392
There are several things to learn from the Hyatt walkway tragedy, but the one I think is the most important is: a small change can lead to an unfortunate disaster. Reducing costs is not as important as being sure there is safety in a building. #RHUB392
Hank Green mentions the Hyatt Walkway failure and how cutting costs during this project let to a tragedy. The Hyatt Walkway is actually the topic my team and I will be doing our report on, so it was very informative listening to Green discuss the topic. #RHUB392
The components of a technical report are title page, executive summary/abstract, introduction, theory, apparatus, experimental setup, experimental procedure, sample calculations, results and discussion, conclusion, and appendices. #RHUB392
(1/2)Some questions to ask ourselves when writing our “results” paragraphs are: “what do the results clearly state?”, “what was discovered?”, “what is the significance of the results?”, are the results fully discusses and conclusions drawn based on the knowledge gained?”,#RHUB392
(1/2) In an engineering report, a “results” paragraph IS NOT the same as the “conclusion” paragraph. The “resúltale paragraph is where we will state the results of our research, analyses, and tests. Graphics, such as images, tables, and graphs, to show our results #RHUB392
The structure or format of an engineering report is very important. Components we should have in our report are title page, executive summary, table of contents, intro, body, conclusions and recommendations, and references and appendices. #RHUB392
(1/2) There are four factors listed in the article “How to Write an Engineering Report” we must remember when writing an engineering report: 1. Consider you audience, 2. Keep the proper structure and organization, 3. Make your writing easy to skim, and 4. Only include #RHUB392
Roles in collaborative writings are very important in order to effectively deliver a writing. Writer, consultant, editor, reviewer, team leader, and facilitator are the roles we have to distribute among our group (except consultant, this has to be someone external). #RHUB392
Group presentations are sometimes more difficult than solo presentations because it is crucial to work together with the whole team in order to have a cohesive presentation. It is also necessary to rehearse with the whole group and listen to everyone opinions. #RHUB392
Three steps that will help us develop deliver a successful presentation are: 1. Observe others, 2. Study their strategies and reflect on their effectiveness, and 3. Select and practice strategies that will work for you; reflect and get feedback from others. #RHUB392
Even if we check out every skill, like strong tech skills and great work, except public speaking, making an impact in our workplace will be extremely hard. Being able to speak ideas, opinions, and suggestions is a crucial skill. #RHUB392
Public speaking has always been a challenge for me since I get very anxious. One quote from the reading that stuck with me is “Your fear of public speaking isn’t a personal failing; it’s a common human response.” This helps me understand I am not alone in this anxiety. #RHUB392
