This is a front view photo of the Hyatt regency incident that happened in 1981. For this example it was a last minute change to the plans that no one followed up on during construction. This led to one set of supports holding double the supposed weight leading to failure #RHUB392

Watching hank greens video it can be said that what most of these failures have in common is lack of inspection. As for example most bridge designed lacked components or understanding. Last minute changes to plans were left unchecked such as the Hyatt regency incident. #RHUB392

When writing an engineering report it should be organized in several organized sections each with a different purpose. Keeping in mind one’s audience and overall purpose with presenting the report. What stood out was that results and conclusions are separate sections. #RHUB392

After reading the collaborative writing article I have considered a few options with how we could approach writing our essay as we are closing in on finals and are all relatable busy. Most likely will use the sequential group writing process to accomplish our essay. #RHUB392

After watching the podcast a repeated idea brought on by petroski was having the courage to question one’s higher ups if one’s sees an error in the design. As it could seem as undermining them but has been a common factor in multiple failures in history. #RHUB392

After reading ethics in technical communication I realized I have not considered the correlation between ethics and one’s writing especially in the work space. As ambiguous writing can lead to an error which can result in the loss of life or livelihood of others. #RHUB392

@JonnathanS1821 I do agree that this visual helps show the importance of windshield wipers and the necessity of replacing them after a certain amount of time. Alongside the front blades you can also include mentioning the rear as it’s importance is also sometimes ignored. #RHUB392

What helped me most was the reading focusing on visual instructions. What stood out to me was that even if visuals were used it shouldn’t reduce the amount of steps as it’s only there to aid in the process and provide an overview of the step for audience retention. #RHUB392

@AdrianHeatley I also thought this idea was interesting as people think of instructions,simply a list of steps to do. However it is important to recognize that not everyone reading the instructions will have the same knowledge and so it’s good insight to provide background information #RHUB392

After reading section 7.7 what stood out was the idea of putting oneself in the audiences shoes when writing instructions. This is a simple but really helpful idea as many times those that are knowledgeable assume many things the audience most likely doesn’t understand.#RHUB392

Overall my writing of the rough draft when fairly well. Although In my revisions for the process explanation I’m struggling about how much more in depth I should go into the process explanation as the more in depth I go the harder it is to explain in simpler terms. #RHUB392

After watching the video I understood more about what goes into a recommendation rather than simply stating to take action the writer has to also explain it once again and justify it as well. Giving me a clearer picture on the structure of the conclusion. #RHUB392
