Cannabis exposure is an increasingly overlooked danger for pets as marijuana products become more accessible, commercially available, and highly potent.
According to the ASPCA Animal Poison Control Center, more than 6,200 marijuana toxicity cases involving pets were reported in 2021, increasing to over 6,300 cases by 2024. While most exposures are not fatal, one study documented 16 cannabis-related pet deaths, many involving marijuana edibles.
🐾 Dogs are especially vulnerable, often ingesting edibles or cannabis products left within reach. Because pets are far more sensitive to THC than humans, even small amounts can lead to serious symptoms, including disorientation, vomiting, loss of coordination, tremors, seizures, and, in severe cases, coma.
Although many animals recover with prompt veterinary care, the continued rise in marijuana-related poisonings highlights the urgent need for greater public awareness and prevention to help avoid these entirely preventable exposures.

He's talking about cannabis, and he's right. This is the part of use I don't talk about enough; THC kills motivation, it puts up a smoked-glass window between users and the world.
(Yes, heavy alcohol use does too, but alcoholics can't hide the cost from themselves because alcohol is physically punishing in a way cannabis is not. THC addicts just slowly, inexorably fall behind.)
We are honored to share that the Every Brain Matters (EBM) Memorial, created for families whose loved ones have died from the effects of marijuana, has been featured in the White House Office of National Drug Control Policy’s 2026 National Drug Control Strategy (see page 71).

If we want to address this country's mental health and drug crisis, it's crucial for lawmakers to see through the lies of the marijuana industry and recognize that legalization only worsens these issues.
German Health Minister Nina Warken on Wednesday said the legalization of cannabis “was a mistake,” delivering a “sobering” report on the use of the drug two years after it was controversially freed from government prohibitions.

Why are taxpayers footing an ever-growing bill for drug-related harm—while policies continue to move in the wrong direction?
The reality: when government policies shift toward promoting drug use through commercialization and normalization, the consequences don’t disappear—they multiply. More use leads to more addiction, more mental health challenges, and more strain on already overwhelmed recovery systems.
And who pays for it?
Taxpayers.
No amount of funding will ever be “enough” if we ignore the root cause. Recovery resources will always be playing catch-up unless we prioritize what actually reduces harm in the first place: drug prevention policies.
It’s time to ask a harder question—are we solving the problem, or funding the consequences?

New study in JAMA Health Forum (463,396 adolescents followed to age 26):
Teen cannabis use was linked to a significantly higher risk of psychotic, bipolar, depressive & anxiety disorders — even after accounting for prior mental health and other substance use.
Cannabis use preceded diagnoses by 1.7–2.3 years.

This is what kills kids. Not made-up billionaire pedophile sex rings. Parental drug use. This is what we need to face and target as a culture and a country.
Getting riled up over conspiratorial fiction on X is easy. Facing reality is hard, and fixing it even harder.
