As we approach Christmas and the New Year, we want to thank every member, organiser, and supporter who stood firm in 2025. This year tested our movement, but it also proved our strength. ✊🏾
As 2025 comes to a close, we reflect on struggle, loss, growth, and determination.
For 13 years we have fought to change the MPRDA so it protects communities, not corporations. That moment is now before us, and we know power gives nothing without a fight.
Stilfontein showed us how cheaply Black lives are valued by a mining system that profits from exclusion and poverty. Yet we did not retreat. We organised. We mobilised. We built a militant yet disciplined movement rooted in unity, women and youth leadership, and people’s power.
Funding is shrinking, but our resolve is not. We will find new ways to build our movement, build community, and advance the struggle, together.
Wishing our members and supporters a blessed Christmas and a powerful New Year.
The struggle continues, and together, we rise. ✊🏾

In Bapong, MACUA asked the obvious questions:
Why no police at night when illegal mining happens at night?
Why no syndicate kingpins arrested?
Why spend R1.5bn on Vala Umgodi with no high-level accountability?
Why no justice for 93 deaths in Stilfontein?
We refuse false solutions.
We demand real accountability.

What keeps a tree standing in the wind is not so different from what keeps a person standing in hard times.
Roots, support and community is what give us the strength to bend without breaking.
That same power is what builds resilience #ForPeopleForPlanet.
The ongoing challenges in communities like Bapong stem from a foundational wrong: a mining model that excludes communities and allows companies to walk away with billions, thereby fueling the extreme inequality that characterizes our nation and, specifically, our mining areas.
Our discarded plastic doesn’t disappear - it lingers, polluting our planet, and impacting people and nature🛑.
But it’s not too late to act. Governments must act to #StopPlasticPollution. #UNEA7
Western countries are providing financial military aid to invade regions filled with reserves and in the process millions are getting killed.
