THE QUIET FUNERAL OF CENTRAL KENYA

We have a big problem and nobody is talking about it.

Not in church. Not in the county assembly.

Not at the barber shop. Nowhere.

Let me tell you how I found out.

This year I needed to hire people.
A driver. A shamba boy. A gardener. A farmhand for my goats in Kingeero.

Simple jobs. Honest jobs. Jobs our fathers did with pride.

I am now on my TENTH driver. Tenth.

And it is barely August.

I am not quoting a government survey. I am not quoting NACADA.

I am quoting my own payroll.

Driver number one disappeared on a Tuesday. Found Thursday.

Driver number four came to work smelling like a distillery with a birth certificate.

Driver number seven asked for an advance on Monday and a funeral on Friday, his own liver was writing the eulogy in advance.

As I write this, my current driver is sitting in a police station.

Arrested for drunk driving.

From a MORNING assignment. Not a night out. Not a wedding. A morning assignment I sent him.

The sun had barely cleared Ngong Hills and this man was already gone.😕

Walk through any shopping centre in Central Kenya at 6am and count the men leaning on verandas waiting for the den to open.

Men aged 25 to 45.

The exact men who should be marrying, building, planting, carrying coffins of the OLD, not filling them.

These are working alcoholics.

They show up.

They function. Barely.

They drive your matatu.

They wire your house.

They handle your goats.

And every shilling they touch goes through a keg tap before it reaches home.

And here is the part that breaks me.

Go to the villages.

The shambas are being run by women.

The chamas are women.

The church is women.

The funerals committee is women.

The boys are at the base.

An entire generation of Kikuyu men is quietly drinking itself out of history, and we are watching it happen through our car windows on the way to work.

Who will marry the girls?

I am serious.

Our daughters are graduating, working, buying plots and looking around at a marriage market of men who cannot pass a breathalyser at 8am.

We keep asking why our girls are single at 35.

The answer is staggering home right now from a den in Wangige.

Who will cry for the boy child?

Everyone laughed when that phrase started.

Nobody is laughing in Central Kenya.

We buried the boy child a long time ago.

We just haven’t held the funeral, because the men who should carry the casket are drunk.

And the funerals themselves, have you noticed?

A 34-year-old dies and the eulogy says “after a short illness.”

No. Name the illness.

The illness is sold in a 300ml bottle for fifty bob behind the market.

The illness has a distributor, a supply chain, and protection.

We are the region of coffee. Of tea. Of hustle.

Of men who walked from Kingeero to Nairobi barefoot and built empires.

And their grandsons cannot walk from the den to the gate.

So I am asking, honestly, painfully, with ten drivers worth of evidence:

Who will talk about this?

The politicians won’t the dens are voters.

The church whispers about it once a year.

The families hide it out of shame.

We have a problem.

It is not coming.

It is here.

It has a police OB number and it is sitting in a cell wearing my company’s uniform.

Central Kenya is not dying of poverty.

Central Kenya is dying of thirst and it keeps drinking the wrong thing.

HR forced me to hire a junior systems administrator last week.

He's 23 years old and showed up on day 1 carrying a physical notebook.

He spent his first morning looking at our backend and realized my automation scripts were written in 2008.

He asked me why we're running deprecated code that relies on an unpatched version of Windows 7.

I told him we employ a strategy of chronological obfuscation.

I explained that modern malware is designed to attack modern architecture.

By keeping our infrastructure trapped in the Bush administration, we're immune to zero-day exploits.

You can't hack what you can't interface with.

He looked at me like I was insane and asked about data compliance.

I leaned back in my chair and whispered the phrase "asynchronous legacy tunneling".

He immediately closed his notebook and apologized for questioning my vision.

I spent the rest of the afternoon watching a 4-hour documentary about the Roman Empire at my desk.

Next week I'm going to make him untangle category 5 cables for character development.

Taking care of your children is your responsibility, not an investment.

You cannot rely on your children to support you during retirement.

They are already under immense pressure managing their own family expenses.

Depending on them can also rob them of the extra income they need to invest in their own future and retirement.

This can create a vicious cycle where each generation struggles to prepare for retirement.

Even though you did everything to raise them, avoid the “loved ones retirement fund” mindset.

Plan for your own retirement and secure your sunset years.

Al Jazeera reports that NAN and Artificial foods given to babies in Afrika have 50% more added sugar than in other areas.

They add that the WHO has warned that sugar fed to babies predisposes them to developmental failures and chronic metabolic diseases.

But the educated illiterates don't listen.

They have refused to breastfeed and instead feed their children all these useless products.

Babies need food, not products.

I’ve just seen a court ruling this morning, and honestly, this one is a big win.

A comrade took a 82k HELB loan, and after years of penalties HELB was asking for 540k.
They went to court &
The court has now said HELB was wrong.
They didn’t follow the duplum rule, meaning you should never pay more than twice the amount you borrowed.

My people, this is the problem.
Out there, Kenyans are being punished by a system that hasn’t even given them jobs.
A loan of 100k growing to 1M in a few years? Yet the comrade hasn’t found a job. That’s daylight robbery.

I hope this ruling sets a precedent.
And honestly, more people need to take these things to court.

If we don’t challenge them, they’ll continue exploiting Kenyans quietly.

Also, genetic factors are altered by epigenetic causes.

But we have been brainwashed to accept that the rising prevalence of metabolic diseases is due to genetic factors.

Go to your village and ask your grandmother the vernacular names of the following:

• Diabetes

• Hypertension

• Cancer

When we were growing up in the 90s, how many obese people did you meet in your village?

Yet, the functional illiterates will tell you that the reason we have so many obese children and adults today is because of awareness and improved diagnosis.

This is a new phenomenom of normalizing child sexualization and pedophilia fantasies .
I’m not a moral cop but where do we draw the line between advertisement / marketing and morals ?
When we use school uniforms on call girls to lure patrons in night clubs and make adverts as appeals?
School uniforms are not just a garment, they are symbols of naivity, innocence, learning, and dependency.
By using them in adult spaces like night clubs, we overlap the moral line between children and sex objectification .This is actually promoting child sex fantasies which may lead to rapes and defilements .

This is giving predators a field day to mentally socialise children to pleasure and they may lead or generate to actual adventure.

This indirectly sexualizes and objectifies the image of prepubescent children to sexual objects to be admired therefore justifying pedaphilia admiration
which may lead to sexual exploitation and abuse.

In a society already battling rising cases of Incest , sexual assault and molestations,we cannot afford to play with symbols that prompt abusers to tempt our children’s Naivity.

Give your children chicken soup regularly.

Chicken soup soothes respiratory illnesses and boosts the upper respiratory tract immunity.

Ensure chicken is grass-fed, free-range.

• Prepare chicken

• Boil chicken

• Add salt

• You may blend ginger, garlic, carrot and pepper to make a thick broth.

• Don't use cooking oil. Chicken has its fat. Use it.

Feed them chicken soup regularly. You will never hear them coughing because of cold and they will never have unnecessary sore throat and chronic tonsilitis.

Stop feeding your children useless products from KFC and supermarkets.

Children need food, not products.
