@buggirl And then the remaining monkeys pummel the monkey standing near the bananas, and then the next poor simian sod, and the next.
You get a bunch of dead monkeys and a trillion rotten bananas. Nature ain't nice and I aspire to rise above.
@dawatchman@ChadThunder1982@fandompulse@RazorFist I tried that. For years. It led to the likes of Starfleet Academy and the newest of nuWho.
Let the message arise organically, and the story can work. Start with the message as your priority, and the story withers.
@SamRobbWrites@SarahAHoyt@frost_holl83899 Read this, loved it! You can feel the city vibes without it being self-consciously urban. I wasn't expecting to get involved in the street-art concept as much as I did.
@caitliniwalsh@SarahAHoyt@frost_holl83899 Anybody with kids should pick these up. They are *adorable* and you can feel the love and the occasional exasperation on every page.
@J0hnADouglas@Devon_Eriksen_ 2/2 That said, I'd love to talk recommendations. I have NO audience, but I'm a structural editor and can break down what appeals and to who.
@J0hnADouglas@Devon_Eriksen_ 1/2 The relief I felt when I watched my first Drinker video was real, a jolt of "you mean I'm not crazy?" But I wish for more recommendations to start actual "good stuff here!" conversations.
@Devon_Eriksen_ C.S. Lewis: "When I became a man I put away childish things, including the fear of childishness and the desire to be very grown up."
Children PLAY. Adults should play. And grownup play (no, not like that) is more fun.
@audi0dr4g0n@SandyofCthulhu Raconteur Press has a line of juveniles for boys, and I like the ones I read. https://t.co/cleQ8N8LEU
And I recommend Dave Freer's books - good adventures where "the message" is "how to stand on your own two feet".
@bethesda Been playing since Morrowind launched. Elder Scrolls, Fallout, even Starfield. (When I disliked Starfield, I shrugged and moved on. Y'all should try that sometime.)
You will never see another of my dollars. Good kitty, my ass.
@cirsova I grew up on the Silm, first read-through at 8. A whole-cloth adaptation would be awful, but DAMN I'd love to see a good adaptation of Beren and Luthien or the Fall of Numenor.
