I stand corrected. Imran Khan never said that an Army Chief is father of the nation. Apologies to those hurt by the specific comment. I do however standby the crux of my speech that all leading politicians and political parties’ heads had been giving too much of space to the respective army chiefs to come to power.

Whether some prime ministers said something specific or not but each one of them meant it- army chief is like a father. One wrote letter to dictator to call him dad, the other announced in a dictator’s funeral to carry out his mission, yet another awarded democracy medal to an army chief who while wearing it on his chest subsequently stole the 1990 elections (Supreme Court judgement), and then came the cricket legend who acted as polling agent of the dictator’s 'refraudem' to continue in office as president.

Some facts may go wrong but the crux of the past conduct of the public figures cannot be dismissed and defended with proofs of some misquotations. The real focus of my speech was the hypocritical attitude of every political party leader towards their youth. Students are exploited and exposed to harm on streets but they are never given the basic right to form student unions. I am sorry to say but each of the above mentioned prime ministers practically acted like a biological son of every army chief.

Instead of telling their ‘dads’ to honour their mother like state as per their oath all of them were acted like a conduit to dishonouring of their oaths. On the other hand the young students of colleges and universities, most of them being the registered voters had every legal, moral and social obligation to be politically active were forced to give an oath for before admissions to degree institutions, an oath not to do politics.

So better focus on and debate the main issue instead of some admitted mistakes like this which cannot absolve the leadership of its past sins.
