Oh my, look at the time! What an inspiring chat!
Thank you to everyone who participated in tonight's #ADEAchat. Special thanks to 2018 CDE of the year @Aimes_Rush for being our guest moderator and smashing it on her first ever tweetchat!
The team at the @type1family inspire me on a daily basis. They each bring their niche to our type 1 tribe and I learn so much from them all. Definitely role models and mentors for me #adeachat
In my career, definitely my PhD supervisory team: @BodilRasmussen4, @CroweTim and @KylieBall3. Each of them have taught me much and guided me in the research and academia world. Forever grateful for them! #ADEAchat
Be brave! If you truly believe in something then man yourself with the tools you need to effectively and safely implement it into your practice/life #adeachat
This is actually a really good prompt for me to write a little note to my mentors and role models (especially my mentors, maybe not so much role models) to say thank you!
But there are also some great awards to recognise mentors and role models in our profession #ADEAchat
We have these amazing role models and mentors across many different levels; from student level to within the workforce...
Q4. How should role models and mentors be recognised for their service to the profession or community? #ADEAchat
None of us know it all! There will always be someone out there who has greater knowledge and lived experience in whatever area you focus on. Having someone like this on your team is priceless to professional and personal development #adeachat
I believe we may have already started talking about this point but here is our next question!
Q3. Why is it important to have mentors or role models in your career/life with diabetes?
#ADEAchat
1. Honesty - I need someone who isn't afraid to tell me what I'm doing is a stupid idea
2. Sense of Humour - Sometimes we just need to laugh at our own downfalls
3. Passionate - As @ShepperdCashepp said, someone who is passionate will often do amazing things
#ADEAchat
Wisdom-experience to offer me educated and lived advice. Open mindedness-able to float ideas and and have them considered. Relatability-for diabetes knowledge I want someone specialising in type 1, for life I want someone who gets how I like to spend my me time.#adeachat
@ShepperdCashepp has already jumped the gun on this so let's get into our next question:
Q2. What are the top three qualities that you look for in a role model or mentor?
#ADEAchat
Huge! My role models are the people living with T1 around me, my patients and my ‘tribe’. I look to them as the experts, feeding off what they want to know more about. They inspire me to keep learning and keep finding new ways to help them make T1 management easier.#adeachat

Amy Rush, APD CDE in Perth! I specialize in type 1 diabetes and work at the Type 1 Diabetes Family Centre developing and delivering education programs. I also see people with type 1 for individual dietetic and diabetes education. I like to run....and rap 😂
Welcome to our next #ADEAchat everyone! Tonight we have the awesome @Aimes_Rush joining us as a guest moderator talking about #diabetes and leadership.
Let's get started with some introductions with who you are and your connection to diabetes!
So excited to present at my first national conference today! I had the pleasure of representing a group I am so passionate about, and on such a frontier topic - the clinical applications of a reduced carbohydrate approach in diabetes. #telethontype1 ##metrodietetics#DAA2018
