Oggi, invitato dal Comandante Sergio #Savastano, ho avuto l’onore di compiere una visita a bordo della fregata italiana “Carabiniere”, che rappresenta una delle eccellenze costruttive della cantieristica Italiana e una nave di punta della Marina Militare italiana. Costruita da @Fincantieri, la “Carabiniere” è stata varata nel 2015 in occasione del bicentenario della fondazione dell’arma dei @_Carabinieri_.
La nave italiana, all’ancora da qualche giorno nel porto di #Oslo, fa parte del “Carrier Strike Group 8” della Marina militare americana, ove svolge un ruolo cruciale di difesa da potenziali minacce sottomarine a supporto alla missione condotta dalla portaerei “USS Harry S. Truman”, sotto il comando della Sesta Flotta americana nel Nord dell’Atlantico.

⚓️ Nuclear submarines of the Northern Fleet launched cruise missiles at a sea target in the Barents Sea

The nuclear submarine missile cruisers “Severodvinsk” of Project 885 and “Orel” of Project 949A of the Northern Fleet carried out practical missile firing at a sea target in the Barents Sea. The missile firing was carried out in accordance with the combat training plan for the Northern Fleet forces.

A complex target position, simulating a detachment of landing ships of a mock enemy, was successfully hit by Kalibr and Granit cruise missiles at a distance of about 170 kilometers. According to objective control data, the combat exercise was completed successfully; the missile weapons used once again confirmed their inherent characteristics and high reliability.

The missile firing area was closed in advance to civilian shipping and aviation flights. The combat exercise was carried out by ships of the Kola Flotilla of heterogeneous forces of the Northern Fleet.

It's an interesting one. Insofar as the detailed design has notable Kuznetsov/Shandong genes but obviously is a clean sheet design to serve the CATOBAR role. Chinese engineering thought in this regard keeps being quite fascinating to me, and its one way to avoid engineering risk.
