Liquid Cooling is the biggest ‘Pick and Shovel’ theme of AI and Data Center boom.

The heart of a data center's efficiency is its ability to manage heat.
Excessive heat—can lead to hardware failure, reduced performance, and increased energy consumption

1. Supercomputers Boom:
1000s of GPUs rack built for AI have higher thermal density properties than previous-generation architectures.

2. Server manufacturers like $SMCI are packing more GPUs into each rack to meet the accelerating demand for high-performance computing and AI applications.

3. Traditional air cooling can’t cool high-density server racks efficiently and sustainably.

4. So data center operators are evaluating liquid cooling options instead of Air. Liquid cooling can be up to 3000 times more effective than using air. Why?

Liquid cooling leverages the higher thermal transfer properties of water or other fluids to do the cooling of high-density racks which is more efficient and cost-effective

5. However Installing liquid cooling can get complicated. Key issues includes

Plumbing requirements
Cooling distribution
Balance capacity
Risk mitigation strategies
Heat rejection systems

6. Options for liquid cooling include:

/ Rear-door heat exchangers
/ Direct to chip cooling
/ Immersion cooling

Direct to chip cooling can remove about 70-75% of the heat generated by the equipment in the rack, leaving 25-30% that must be removed by air-cooling systems.

7. Reducing energy consumption:

One of the most compelling benefits of liquid cooling technology is its potential to lower energy consumption.
Using efficient heat transfer mechanisms, data centers can achieve significant energy savings, contributing to sustainability goals and reducing operational costs.

8. Two leaders of Liquid Cooling Solutions?

NPN Or Nvidia Partner Network is a global program for technology partners who offer solutions built on, or powered by, NVIDIA technologies.

Super Micro runs $NVDA AI chips.
Supermicro is a “one-stop” solution provider for rack scale liquid cooling solutions. Their liquid cooling solution can reduce OPEX by up to 40%, and allow data centers to run more efficiently with lower PUE (Power usage effectiveness (PUE) is a metric used to determine the energy efficiency of a data center).

SMCI CEO Charles Liang tweeted recently “Thanks elonmusk for leading the liquid cooling technology to large AI data centers!". SMCI will make half the racks for $TSLA XAI Grok

Vertiv $VRT is another company that brings its high-density power and cooling infrastructure expertise to the NVIDIA Partner Network to better support adoption of accelerated computing and AI workloads
