Coolie review #svk_reviews
The most important thing about Coolie is not Rajinikanth or Lokesh or Soubin or Aamir Khan or even Pooja Hegde, the most important and the vital thing about Coolie is the fact that you can get any stupid script approved with a big budget once you have a good direction track record.
No matter how much you think and contemplate about this story, you cannot put this together or bring this story in a simple straight line.
What is a non linear story narration? It means, a script which can be linear is converted into a nonlinear narration for cinematic exaggeration and dramatization. The chronological order is changed to bring about the desired cinematic output.
I have no clue what the linear part of this script is, even if there is one , it feels like what is the point. I'll tell the story of Coolie in a linear order, see this ;
Rajini kills Xavier who is a big time Baron and his henchmen because of a complicated dispute I fail to understand.
Satyaraj is his brother in law.
For some reason Rajini leaves his daughters with Satyaraj (who will raise them as his own without their knowledge of Rajinikanth).
Rajini later starts a mansion where he secretly hides 19 coolies for no absolute reason for many many years.
Years later Satyaraj invents a mobile cremator chair.
Simon the son of Xavier uses it to dispose of bodies secretly (even tho himself and his men kill people all the time in front of a crowd of 13000 plus coolies).
Satyaraj is killed by Soubin who is undercover police.
Rajini wants to find out about his death.
Continues to cremate more bodies with Satyaraj's daughter Shruthi Hassan.
Soubin is now killed by Simon but he wakes up alive unexpectedly and escapes and keeps Shruti as hostage.
Rajini now tries to do things for Soubin because he has Shruthi hostage but he also knows that Soubin killed Satyaraj.
He now also tries to help Simon's son join hands with his lover who works for them, but she turns out to be Soubin's wife.
She is now held hostage by Rajini.
Soubin let's Shruthi go, but at the same time Soubin's wife and Simon's son fake lover escapes Rajini's custody.
Soubin chases Shruthi but she is taken in custody by Simon along with Soubin's wife.
Now remember Soubin has recently killed Simon's son as well, so Simon kills Soubin's wife.
Rajini now meets Simon and says he killed his father years ago and kills Simon as well.
Now Aamir Khan takes Rajini in to custody.
Aamir later let's them all(Rajini gang) go but they all bury Soubin together for some reason.
The end.
What the fuck is this? It doesn't make sense at all? Does anything make sense? Even if you know more context when you watch the movie, it still wouldn't make sense. Infact it raises more questions than answers, for example;
Why the fuck would 19 coolies stay in a mansion build by Deva for many many years? Avangaluku pulla kutti family ellam yaen illa, yaen adhu illama anga irukanga? What is the point of those people staying there? What is stopping them from going home?
Why is Rajini hiding? Why specifically, he has a landline so that someone can call him one day to reveal that they are his original children.
Ippo Satyaraj than brother in law na, you know where you left your kids nu la? Why is there a difficulty in understanding that Shruthi or anyone from that household could be your daughter?
If Rajini owns a Mansion, he is not a Coolie anymore right? He is now a business owner la? Why does he claim that he is a Coolie?
Why has Satyaraj kept Rajini offline for 30 years? What is the specific purpose? There is no single reason which could explain that question.
Simon (Nagarjuna) has no problem killing people in front of 13K coolies but he goes a long way to dispose bodies secretly? Why?
The movie can be asked atleast 20 more specific questions like this but the script simply doesn't care about any of these things, it only cares about elaborate boring action sequences which are unmotivated and placed here and there like fillers.
What is this movie even about? Is this about a mobile cremator? Is this about Rajini killing a Baron years ago? Is this about Rajini... You know what? I don't even care anymore.. That is how stupid this screenplay is.
The number of random sudden events and twist that happen in this movie is a bit ridiculous because nothing seemed to work at all. One such sequence where, out of the blue Charlie saying that someone who calls Rajini's landline with his coolie number is his child made no sense, even when the call was made later in the movie because that was pointless.
Also the secret internal business of Nagarjuna was apparently heart trafficking aama (tired punda agudhu da), even the original illegal business of Nagarjuna involving gold and luxury watches are relatively more profitable and feasible compared to this stupid ass heart trafficking.
Also the sudden appearance of 19 coolies from the mansion during the fight who were dormant for 30 years, my simple question is , enna pundaiku mansion laye maranji vazhanum?
The movie doesn't have a clear goal, it doesn't have a proper script, I still don't understand why they Satyaraj whispered "powerhouse" before dying. I also don't understand the relevance of Rajini drinking Powerhouse alcohol, nothing makes sense in this film.
The one thing that made sense in this whole film was "Monica Bellucci" song featuring Pooja Hegde, I would watch that song once again 👍.
Basically if you want to defend Coolie to me, I say "curb your enthusiasm" , explain the story to me, if you can't "lower your voice in front of me".
Bottom line - The movie raises more questions than answers, sometimes the movie even manages to question our life choices and decisions, starting with why we fell for the hype and came to this film in the first place.
As #LokeshKanagaraj is stepping into his debut film as an actor, he has more than 6 months solidly for writing of #Kaithi2, which is coming under LCU ✍️
Hope for Kaithi2, he doesn't focus on Force fitted cameo & Pan Indian casting !!
#Coolie - Many People Brought Kids to the theatre and didn't get allowed inside..✌️ People went back with disappointment..🚶 Team should've Tried for U/A.. Thalaivar films are meant to be enjoyed by the whole family..🤙
This is the reason why #Rajinikanth fans are one of the worst fanbases and a disgrace to Kollywood. Not all, but many.
Personal Abusing #LokeshKanagaraj is too much 👎🏼👎🏼
