Under the Comprehensive Protection Project in South and Mid-Western Uganda, refugee and host community girls and young women are gaining the skills, tools, and opportunities they need to thrive and build brighter futures.

For many girls, a dignity kit is more than a package of supplies. It is confidence, comfort, and one less reason to miss school.

We placed dignity kits directly into the hands of adolescent girls and created a safe space for honest conversations about menstrual health, self-esteem, and staying in school. With the right support and information, girls can manage their periods with dignity and focus on what matters most: their education and future.

"I used to worry about coming to school during my period. Now I feel more confident and ready to stay in class and learn," shared one of the beneficiaries.

Implemented under the #INSPIREProject (Investing in Sustainable Partnerships for Improved Refugee Education), funded by @DutchMFA and implemented by @AWYAD_UG in partnership with War Child Alliance.

A heartfelt thank you to @NRC_Norway, @UNHCRuganda, school leadership, and Education Consortium partners for standing with girls and helping ensure that menstruation is never a barrier to learning.

Out-of-school girls and young women in Kyaka II Refugee Settlement have received tailoring start-up kits under the #SpotlightInitiative to support their skills development and economic empowerment.

Equipped with sewing machines and tailoring tools, the beneficiaries are now better positioned to turn their skills into sustainable livelihoods, strengthen their financial independence, and support their families and communities.

Through vocational training and start-up support, the Spotlight Initiative is helping create opportunities for young women to thrive, reduce vulnerability, and build a future free from poverty, inequality, and gender-based violence.

Hundreds of children in Kyaka II and Oruchinga Refugee Settlements are gaining the knowledge and confidence to claim their rights, report abuse, and seek support when they need it.

Through child rights awareness sessions, children learned about their rights to:

When children know their rights, they are better protected. When communities understand their responsibilities, they become stronger advocates for children's wellbeing.

Honored to host Mr. Pekka Haavisto (@Haavisto), Personal Envoy of the UN Secretary-General for Sudan, at Kansanga Access Centre during his visit to better understand the realities facing refugees in Uganda.

Accompanied by Mr. Patrick Okello, Commissioner for Refugees at @OPMUganda, the delegation engaged with refugees and humanitarian partners, including @Refugees, to understand protection needs and response efforts.

We were proud to have Mrs. Viola Ababiku represent @AWYAD_UG, showcasing our achievements in preventing and responding to Gender-Based Violence through the @GlobalSpotlight, a UN-supported programme led by @UN.

A key highlight of the visit was a meaningful dialogue with Sudanese refugees, who shared their experiences, challenges, and aspirations, reinforcing the need for continued international solidarity, protection, and durable solutions.

Climate Justice is Gender Justice.

At @CGVSUganda in Luwero District, @GNB_Uganda Central Region, Parish, LC1 Leaders, and the community came together and planted 300 trees at 6 Sites to #EndChildMarriage.

Here’s the connection no one talks about:
Trees → Rain → Crops → Income → Girls in School

Because when trees grow:
Rain increases→ crops grow → families can afford school fees
Income grows→ less poverty → fewer girls married early
Firewood is closer→ girls spend more time learning, not walking
Safer, greener schools→ better attendance and health
Climate stability*→ fewer crises that push families into poverty

We planted for the climate. And for every girl who deserves to stay in class.

Another new breastfeeding corner has been established at Akoo Primary School in Maracha district, providing a safe and supportive space for 29 adolescent breastfeeding mothers (10–19 years) to care for their babies while continuing their education.
