📍New York – An insightful meeting with UN High Commissioner for Human Rights Volker Turk @volker_turk.

I congratulated the High Commissioner on the renewal of his mandate and reaffirmed Albania’s steadfast support for an independent, effective and adequately resourced Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights.

We exchanged views on the global human rights agenda and #Albania’s longstanding cooperation with #OHCHR, including its engagement with UN human rights mechanisms and organs, especially our active role as a member of Human Rights Council.

I reaffirmed Albania’s unwavering dedication to the promotion and protection of human rights, human dignity and fundamental freedoms, as well as to a credible, effective and rules-based multilateral system capable of addressing today’s complex global challenges.

We also discussed the Global Alliance for Human Rights, underlining the importance of stronger international cooperation and ensuring that human rights remain at the heart of the United Nations’ work.

📍New York -- On the margins of #UNGA81, I was pleased to meet with H.E. Jeyhun Bayramov @Bayramov_Jeyhun, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Azerbaijan. 🇦🇱🇦🇿

Our discussion reaffirmed the excellent relations between #Albania and #Azerbaijan and our shared commitment to further strengthening political dialogue, economic cooperation and people-to-people ties. Reflecting the growing depth and maturity of our partnership, we expressed our determination to further advance our relations, building on the strong foundations already established between our two countries.

We reviewed progress across a number of areas of mutual interest, particularly in energy, the economy, connectivity and tourism, and highlighted the significant potential to further expand cooperation in all sectors that contribute to economic growth, #energy security and regional interconnectivity.

We exchanged views on regional and international developments, including the current dynamics between Azerbaijan and #Armenia, reaffirming our support for dialogue, international law and diplomacy as essential instruments for promoting peace, stability and sustainable development.

📍New York -- A pleasure to meet with Joe Wilson @RepJoeWilson, United States Representative for South Carolina, senior member of the House Foreign Affairs Committee, as well as a longstanding friend of #Albania and the Albanian people.

We had a very useful discussion on Albania’s continued path of reforms, with particular emphasis on the country��s unprecedented justice reform, a transformative process that has become a cornerstone of our democratic consolidation.

We also exchanged views on the latest developments in the region and underscored the importance of strengthening the rule of law, democratic institutions, and good governance as essential foundations for sustainable progress, stability, and prosperity, as well as core pillars of Albania’s EU #accession process.

I thanked Congressman Wilson for his contribution in strengthening the close partnership between our two countries. We highly value his longstanding commitment to the Western Balkans and his continued engagement in promoting peace, security, and democratic development in the region. 🇦🇱🇺🇸

📍New York -- A pleasure to meet with Kaja Kallas, Vice-President of the European Commission and High Representative of the EU for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, for a timely and substantive exchange.

Our discussions focused on the situation and current dynamics in the #WesternBalkans, the challenges facing the region, and the importance of continued close coordination in support of peace, stability and security.

We underlined the importance of concretising the EU perspective for the entire region, sustaining the momentum of the enlargement process, advancing reforms and anchoring the Western Balkans firmly within the #European family.

#Albania remains fully committed to its ongoing EU accession process and to contributing constructively to regional cooperation, as well as to a stronger, more united and more secure #Europe.

📍 New York -- More than two decades after its creation, the #AdriaticCharter remains a valuable pillar of regional security and Euro-Atlantic cooperation.

At the meeting of the Foreign Ministers of the #AdriaticCharter, organized today under the chairmanship of #Croatia, I highlighted that security today extends far beyond conventional threats.

To meet today’s challenges, from #cyber threats and energy security to Foreign Information Manipulation and Interference (FIMI), we must continue strengthening the Charter’s relevance and effectiveness, just as we must deepen and broaden regional cooperation as a whole.

Yet security in the Western Balkans requires more than resilience. It also requires inclusion. Lasting stability can only be achieved when all countries and societies in the region are fully integrated into the frameworks of cooperation, security, and shared responsibility that underpin our common future.

In this respect, #Kosovo’s membership application has been pending for too long. Advancing this issue would reinforce regional cohesion and strengthen our collective capacity to address shared security challenges. 🇦🇱🇪🇺

An open, adaptable, stronger and more inclusive A5 means a safer #WesternBalkans and remains vital to our shared Euro-Atlantic future.

📍Washington D.C. -- A proud day for Albania. 🇦🇱

Yesterday, at #NASA Headquarters in Washington, Albania took another step into the future.

In the presence of NASA Deputy Administraror, Matt Anderson @NASADepAdmin and the Deputy Assistant Secretary of State for Space and Environment, Connor Tomlinson, I was honoured to sign the #Artemis Accords, making Albania part of a growing international community committed to the peaceful, transparent and responsible exploration of space for the benefit of all humanity.

For Albania, this is more than a signature. It is a statement of confidence in science, innovation and international cooperation. It opens new opportunities for our young generation and connects our country more closely to the technologies, knowledge and partnerships that are shaping the future.

This also adds a new and important dimension to the #strategic partnership between Albania and the United States, reflecting our shared commitment to innovation, progress and cooperation in new frontiers. 🇦🇱 🇺🇸

Honoured and moved to take part in the opening of the #exhibition “Shared Heritage”, organised at the Centre for Open Dialogue, and dedicated to the life and legacy of our own #Anjezë Gonxhe Bojaxhiu, whom the world knows as Mother Teresa.

A #Nobel Peace Prize laureate and a saint of the Catholic Church, Mother #Teresa’s story is cherished in many places and by many peoples. Yet, while her legacy is shared across continents, it ultimately belongs to all humanity. Born into an Albanian family and carrying that heritage proudly throughout her life, she is far more than a revered historical figure. She remains the #Mother of small acts of kindness done with great love, a timeless reminder that what unites us is always greater than what distinguishes us.

The date of 5 September holds a special significance. It marks the day Mother Teresa passed away and, fittingly, the day on which she was later canonised by the Catholic Church. It is also observed as the International Day of #Charity, following a United Nations General Assembly resolution adopted in 2012, with Albania among its principal co-sponsors. Few tributes could be more fitting for a woman who made compassion, service and charity the work of her life.

I thank the Embassy of India in Albania and COD for organising this beautiful exhibition and for bringing Mother Teresa’s extraordinary story, as well as her enduring message of love, dignity and humanity, closer to the #Albanian public.

As Albania and India celebrate 70 years of diplomatic relations, it is particularly meaningful to see Mother Teresa once again serving as a bridge between our peoples. Her life reminds us that some legacies transcend borders, generations and nations, continuing to inspire humanity long after their time.

We welcome the European Parliament's resolution adopted today in #Strasbourg on the findings and recommendations of the Special Committee on the European #Democracy Shield, which recognizes that the Western Balkans are on the frontline of foreign information manipulation and interference - FIMI. The message of the @Europarl_EN is clear: strengthening democratic resilience in candidate countries means strengthening #Europe itself.

This fully resonates with the discussions we hosted in Albania last July, at our conference on FIMI, which brought together partner countries, European institutions, experts, media and civil society to address the growing challenges posed by disinformation, hybrid threats, malign influence and the misuse of new technologies.

The core message of the Conference in #Tirana remains as relevant today as it was then: democratic resilience is no longer only a national concern; it is an essential part of Europe’s collective security. The conclusion of the EP that resilience against FIMI must be strengthened across the entire European space, including in candidate countries, is therefore right, timely and welcome. Europe’s democratic resilience can only be as strong as its weakest link.

A pleasure to welcome, for a first meeting, H.E. Olga Cogen, the first-ever Ambassador of the Kingdom of Belgium resident in Albania. 🇦🇱🇧🇪

#Albania and #Belgium share excellent political relations, strengthened by regular dialogue, close cooperation within the European Union and #NATO and growing people-to-people contacts. The establishment of a resident Belgian #Embassy in Tirana is an important new chapter in our bilateral relations and a clear reflection of the growing depth of our partnership.

We explored ways to further deepen our cooperation across all areas of common interest, with a special focus on unlocking the full potential of our economic and trade relations.
As Albania continues to make steady progress towards #EU membership, I conveyed our gratitude for Belgium’s steadfast support and constructive role in promoting a strong, merit-based and credible enlargement policy. In a changing geopolitical environment, maintaining the momentum of #enlargement is more important than ever for the security, stability and prosperity of #Europe as a whole.

Delighted to welcome today His Royal Highness Prince Naif bin Abdullah bin Saud bin Abdulaziz Al Saud and the accompanying #Saudi business delegation.

Building on our excellent political relations, our countries are now looking to further deepen their economic partnership, encourage greater private investment from Saudi Arabia and the wider Gulf region, and foster concrete business-to-business cooperation.
Stronger connections between our business communities are essential to transforming a growing mutual interest into concrete projects, sustainable investments and lasting economic partnerships.

I also reiterated Albania’s full and consistent solidarity with Saudi Arabia as it continues to face unprovoked attacks carried out by Iran and its affiliates in Yemen, and recalled the #Kingdom’s important role in promoting peace, stability and security throughout the #Gulf region.

Today I had the pleasure of meeting David Satter @DavidSatter, one of America’s most distinguished journalists and a longstanding observer of Russia and the broader post-Soviet space.

With decades of experience reporting from that region for Radio Free Europe/Radio Liberty, The Wall Street Journal and The Financial Times, Mr. Satter has witnessed first-hand the profound transformations that have shaped #Russia and its neighbourhood, as well as the mounting pressures faced by independent journalism.

We exchanged views on Russia, the war against #Ukraine, the evolving geopolitical landscape and, importantly, the indispensable role of a free and independent press as a pillar of democratic societies.

His personal experience, including his expulsion from Russia after reporting on developments related to Ukraine’s pro-European aspirations, serves as a powerful reminder that truthful journalism often comes at a price, particularly when it challenges distorted narratives and deliberate disinformation.

At a time when facts are increasingly contested and information is too often weaponised, the work of journalists who continue to report independently, professionally and without fear is more important than ever.

It was a privilege to hear his perspectives and exchange views on a region whose trajectory remains profoundly important for the security, stability and future of #Europe.
