Joint statement of the international community on the political situation in Somalia

The signatories* of this joint statement are concerned by the current situation in Somalia.

We call on all sides to resume dialogue as soon as possible, and to swiftly reach consensus on an election roadmap in the interest of the Somali people. The international community stands ready to assist in Somali-led talks, should it be requested.

In this delicate moment, we urge all Somali leaders to prioritise the national interest, and refrain from any actions that may lead to an escalation of tensions.

رائيلا أودينغا. الخاسر الذي لم يخسر أبدا.

استطاع بناء قواعد ديمقراطية في بلده، وتغيير الدستور وفق تعددية سياسية. هو قائد يمتلك قدرات فذة للحكم وهو خارج المكاتب الرسمية.. يخسر كل الانتخابات، ويأخذ نصف الدولة تقريبا. كان لديه كاريزما عالية لتحريك الجماهير، وقدرات فائقة لبناء التحالفات.
لم أويد حزبه ولا سياساته في حياتي، لما له من مواقف سلبية ت��اه الوحدة الوطنية الصومالية، وكانت له نزعات تقوده إليها مصالحه الذاتية، وكان ينحرف قليلا عن القيم والمبادئ التي ناضل لاجلها مرات عديدة، ورغم ذلك، فهو قائد تاريخي، ومن النادر أن يتكرر نظيره في المشهد السياسي الكيني. والمؤسف حقا، أنه لم يورّث ولم يهيئ خليفةً يقود المسيرة من بعده، ويرحل في مرحلة سياسية فارقة.
تعازينا للرئيس الكيني وليام روتوا، الذي خسر صديقا أنقذ معه الواقع السياسي للبلاد من الانهيار والصدام، ومع ذلك، ومن الآن فصاعدا، سيلعب الرئيس الكيني وحده في الملعب وسط حلبة فارغة وبدون منافس. وربما سيتمكن الرئيس "روتوا" أن يمد رجليه كما يشاء.
كينيا، تفقد اليوم رجلا كان جهاز التحكم في التوازنات السياسية والتجاذبات المجتمعية قرابة نصف قرن مضى.
رائيلا أودينغا كان زعيما فذاً وقائدا افريقيا، مع أنني لم أكن معجبا ببعض مواقفه وط��وحاته الذاتية.
بخلاصة، رحل عن عالمنا بهدوء رجل سياسي محنّك وبامتياز.

This historic decision marks a significant step forward in strengthening justice, accountability, and the protection of human rights in Somalia. It is a proud moment for our nation and a major achievement for the Somali people.

The establishment of this Commission, the result of careful planning and sustained effort, sends a clear message to the world that Somalia is committed to advancing human rights and building strong national institutions.

Alongside our recent success at the UN Human Rights Conference in Geneva, today’s milestone reflects the continued progress of the National Interest Government in promoting Somalia’s voice, values, and vision on the global stage.

May Somalia continue to flourish in unity, dignity, and success.

The Minister of Interior, Federal Affairs, and Reconciliation H.E Ali Yusuf Ali Hosh chaired a meeting with traditional elders to discuss the National Traditional Elders Policy.

The discussion focused on strengthening the role of elders in reconciliation, governance, and community stability, while highlighting their essential contribution to peace and unity across the country.

Sharif Hassan Sheikh Aden and Mohamed Mursal, both former Speakers of the House of the People, along with ex-Prime Minister Omar Abdirashid and former Information Minister Dahir Mahmud Gelle, have withdrawn from the Salvation Forum and pledged their support to President Hassan Sheikh in advancing the one-person, one-vote elections.

Earlier today, the contested Electoral Commission announced an extension of the registration period, effectively reopening registration in response to the engagement of these prominent political figures.
