We're grateful for champions like @RepRaulRuizMD who fight for the Arctic Refuge. The Gwich'in people, the wildlife, and the land deserve protection, now more than ever. #ProtectTheArctic
Yesterday, Sen. Lee slipped a last-minute amendment into a wildfire bill to permanently gut the Roadless Rule โ literally called "Roadless Rule Nullification." 99% of Americans support the Roadless Rule, but I guess Sen. Lee didn't get the memo.
Thank you @SenatorHeinrich for fighting back. ๐
๐จ Today, Sen. Mike Leeโs amendment to repeal the Roadless Rule passed the Senate Energy and Natural Resources Committee.
The fight to protect our national forests is not over. We can still take action by telling Congress: Keep the Roadless Rule in place. ๐ฒhttps://t.co/TUHYpCdYal
Any day now, the Trump administration could move to roll back the Roadless Rule, opening the door to new roads in some of the last intact national forests.
Some places only stay wild if we choose to keep them that way. Help us keep our forests roadless ๐ฒhttps://t.co/v8gg04GKeH
What a fiasco. Trump tried to use the Arctic as a piggy bank to pay for billionaire tax breaks, and it didnโt work. Stop trying to auction off sacred public lands ๐๐๐ https://t.co/Lz1A3uJj6N
No major oil companies even bid on last week's Arctic Refuge lease sale. Yet here we are again. This landscape deserves permanent protection, not an endless cycle of auctions. #protectthearctic
In its press release on the refuge lease sale, AIDEA includes two photos of caribou near oil/gas infrastructure, suggesting that there are few if any impacts on the ungulates. Recent research, however, shows that roads, pipelines, & wells all negatively affect caribou migration.
Trump's lease sale in the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge is just another cash grab. The Arctic Refuge's ecologically & culturally significant public lands must be protected from Trump's disastrous business plans. https://t.co/elvTqcvksw
Thank you @Rep_Stansbury ๐ The industry has made it clear AGAIN they don't want it, and yet here we are.
We need permanent protection, not another lease sale. โ
Protect the sacred! Donald Trump is trying to auction off nearly 700,000 acres of the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge to oil and gas drilling right now.
Whether itโs Chaco Canyon, Oak Flat, or the Arcticโwe stand with Tribal Nations and our communities in the fight to protect sacred and public lands. These lands are not for sale! โ
Make no mistake, although todayโs lease sale has fallen far short of this administration's promises, the Arctic Refuge was still put on the auction block.
We aren't done. We won't rest until there are NO leases in the Arctic Refuge. #ProtectTheArctic
@SenatorCantwell Thank you @SenatorCantwell ๐ We couldnโt have said it better ourselves.
The work isnโt until the Arctic Refuge is protected for GOOD.
๐จ BREAKING: For the third consecutive time, the Arctic Refuge lease sale has failed to generate real industry interest. No major oil companies. No credible path to the revenue this administration promised.
When will this administration stop gambling with one of the most sacred landscapes on earth for a return that has never materialized, and never will?
https://t.co/cUXapP8b1S
Once a failure, always a failure. Three Arctic Refuge lease sales and the only "interest" comes from AIDEA, a state development authority, not even a real oil company.
This administration bent over backwards for Big Oil, and Big Oil still didn't show up. The joke writes itself.
