7 weeks of @aibuildersmx La Residencia.

I built something that worked on paper and not with the people I built it for. Glad I found out here instead of six months from now.

I left with a cofounder, something I believe in, a better sense of when to quit and when to keep going, and friends I’ll keep building around.

@benkimbuilds brought in the mentors and knew what every one of us was building. That’s not normal. Thank you.

7 weeks ago I launched La Residencia, a first of it's kind, #aibuildersmx residency in Mexico City.

From 300 applicants I championed 10 builders. I selected each person because something resonated - potential, passion, spirit, curiosity, hunger, and grace. Someone who wasn't given their shot. A builder inexperienced and raw but hungry to learn. An entrepreneur without a community.

La Residencia was a collective community experiment to test the limits of communal learning, growth, experimentation, entrepreneurship, failure, and success - in what is to be considered the lonely experience of entrepreneurship.

What was transformative and perspective changing is and always will be the people. We created something powerful and magical out of nothing. We willed together a feeling indescribable and gave endlessly to each other.

As a collective we built 10+ products, pivoted 4 times, and monetized 4 businesses.

Personally, the last 7 weeks have been a huge test of my will and spirit. 4 countries traveled, 6 cities, 14 hour days, 6 products launched / 2 monetized, 2 work teams built, and thousands of slack messages sent - all while managing main job commitments and leading the residency and being a participant of it. I gave it my all and then some. I learned and failed a lot.

This kind of project has never been done this way in Mexico. It's what made it worth trying. The feedback I received from my network, friends, and local mentors was validation enough that what we were doing was culturally unique and radical in this market. I hope this inspires others to follow suit in their own ways.

This has been my most important tech community project. It's hard to express this in words, right now I can only feel the emptiness that it's over and the gratitude that it happened.

We’re building Neudara — clinical software for women’s health.

Same weeks I closed my own project, I found the thing I actually wanted to work on, with someone already deep in it.

Turns out what I was missing wasn’t another idea.

I've been in La Residencia with @benkimbuilds for 6 weeks. Six weeks of space, mentorship and credits for builders with real projects.

Weeks 1–4, honestly:

Week 1: shipped the Korai landing. Felt like progress.
Week 2: launched the waitlist. Three signups.
Week 3: had the conversations that killed it.
Week 4: sat with the fact that I had five weeks of program and no product.

Nobody tells you that the useful part of a builder residency might be watching your idea fail in front of people who've seen it before

I went quiet because I was learning the market instead of posting about it.

The Korai landing got 213 visitors. Three signed up, all friends.

The product was half built. I never launched it.

Everyone liked it. Nobody would pay, some couldn't.
A notebook is free.

Took a few weeks to sit with that. Back now.
