Delighted to say after all this time that the viva went well with no corrections. Many thanks to @DrBenjaminEvans and Jacques Schrenzel for being my examiners and to my supervisory team of @Justin_OGrady@johnwain6 and Iain McNamara
For the past 15 months the team at @thequadram have been rapidly sequencing SARS-CoV-2 samples from hospitals in Norfolk, Suffolk and Essex, without fail, providing detailed genomic epidemiological analysis straight back to local clinicians within a few hours.
Dr Sophie Prosolek and Dr Alex Trotter will be on @BBCLookEast this evening to discuss how, through sequencing #COVID19, Quadram scientists are part of an "early warning system" for B.1.617 (first discovered in India) and other new variants in the region. Tune in from 6.30pm!
CoronaHiT has been published in @GenomeMedicine. We routinely sequence 1500 SARS-CoV-2 samples on a single #Illumina NextSeq high output run.

World-leading #coronavirus research is taking place here at the Quadram. Our scientists are sequencing the genome to map the spread of the virus and identify hidden outbreaks 🦠🔬🌏

Over 1500 #COVID19 genomes have been sequenced in #Norfolk – only five countries, out of 103, have sequenced more than the entire region.
Incredible work from Quadram, @NNUH, and @uniofeastanglia researchers in helping identify and manage outbreaks 👏 https://t.co/cHJAwtpvTA
Paper describing our coronavirus sequencing work. More genomes sequenced @QIB than most countries in the world! Data used to understand outbreaks in factories and care homes in the region with help from @PHE_uk, Test and Trace and @NNUH. Huge team effort. https://t.co/nxy3K6NA5K
We sequenced 1500 people with Coronavirus in #Norfolk over the 1st wave & have a paper out today with lots of interesting findings: https://t.co/YMrq9ECxot
This study demonstrates that the #calprotectin lateral flow assay could be an effective diagnostic test for prosthetic joint #infection, however additional prospective studies testing fresh samples are required https://t.co/6F3CtxAcoP #lateralflowassay#prostheticjointinfection
