Traffic modelling shows spending £10 billion on the Lower Thames Crossing will only relieve congestion at the Dartford Crossing for five years!
We can't keep throwing money away like this! It's time for a roads review in England

@BetterBeckenham@ITVX It would host an even huge-er range of services and generate a bit more revenue for itself if the governance wasn't solely down to a pair of fossilised trustees who simply refuse to hire it to any group that falls on the wrong side of their caprice
@AnyKeyFitness@CarsOnCamera Lol, classic motor lobby tweet: "These cyclists claim there's a difference between cycling at 10mph past a van, and driving at 40mph past a cyclist. What's the difference?! It's exactly the same!"
I thought this was going to be an article claiming (falsely) that journeys took significantly longer and were now uneconomical... but it's actually a whinge that LTDA members were speeding so much they racked up 12 points and got DQ'd
@BomberHarold@roadcc Number of times I've followed a slow vehicle down the A5 for an hour and they haven't pulled over once. I've never become enraged and acted like a nutter at the thought of my ETA being extended by a couple of minutes
@hoxtonrich Love all these protesters who are so concerned about pollution not being distributed fairly. Like, pollution is fine, just so long as it is spread out to everyone. You can ride a bike if you want but I oppose any adjustments to the road network that might inconvenience drivers
@JasonTesco @janipewter @CargoRevolution@toddglister Lol, some guys are like "here's a little video we made showing you can carry a surprising amount on a cargo bike and in the city it's often quicker than driving"
And your reaction is like "I CANNOT BELIEVE YOU ARE SO ANTI DRIVER WHAT IS IT WITH YOUR AGENDA!? 😡😡😡"
Chill, dude
@rbphilip @rail_guns I doubt there's an adult in the land who isn't connected to someone who's had their life changed by a road crash. I guess if that's "not many" to you there's not much I can say that will change your mind
No sentence will be "right" for the families of Mr Langstone.
I am uncomfortable with the way that a lot of people I know to be progressive thinkers come over all Daily Mail when it comes to sentencing for certain crimes. Would we all feel better if instead of 8 years he got 14?
The maximum sentence for causing death by dangerous driving is life imprisonment. Read on for the shocking reality of how long in prison you'd actually get for killing a pedestrian while driving dangerously at 98mph in a 30mph zone.
Adeel Safdar initially left the scene after hitting Jonathan Langston, 52, on 17th March 2023.
The judge said the case was in the most serious category of the sentencing guidelines, giving a starting point of 14 years in prison if Safdar had pursued the case to trial.
The Judge then said he'd reduce the sentence to 12 years for Safdar’s remorse and ‘good character’.
A discount of a third was then provided for pleading guilty, reducing the sentence to 8 years.
In the end, Safdar will spend just five years and four months in prison.
It doesn't feel like the system is working.
@DonnachadhMc@Bike_and_Bow@adamtranter Thought better of you, Donnachadh. There is nothing to suggest the Judge did not apply the law and sentencing guidelines impeccably
