So...
1. Trump said "worst case scenario" is someone as bad as Khamenei coming to power, and now his eldest son Mojtaba Hosseini Khamenei has been chosen as his successor.
2. We are trying to evacuate Americans from the Middle East but struggling because the State Dept has been gutted.
3. FBI Director Kash Patel fired a dozen agents and staff members from a counterintelligence unit tasked with monitoring threats from Iran days before the strikes.
4. CIA is now arming Kurdish forces and sending them into Iran.
5. Pentagon is preparing to ask Congress for MORE money to help fund the war. After trillion dollar budget.
This is turning into a very bad situation very quickly.
Good summary of UAE press briefing this afternoon.
Credit where due: UAE communication to the public thus far—in a war that it emphatically did not start or support—has been clearer than 🇺🇸 government communication to Americans like me here in a war that it emphatically did.
I voted for her. I think he’s a bad guy.
But if you lose the senate, house, electoral college AND popular vote, and you think the lesson is half the country is racist, sexist, homophobic, transphobic, and stupid… wrong lesson. And the same thing will likely happen in 2028.
So it turns out that gaslighting the US people about the health of the President, not running a primary, campaigning on fear of your opponent vs the strength of your policies, and failing to separate yourself from a very unpopular President didn't work out.
I hope the Democratic party learns from this and comes back in 2028 as a stronger party focused on policy that the American people care about with a more popular candidate.
The @metpoliceuk are precisely whom I'm blaming—their indifference to these crimes perpetuates these issues. Nevertheless, it's also up to our government’s political leaders to ensure that law enforcement is sufficiently funded/supported to do their job—or hire others who are prepared to do it instead.

I never thought I would read the most honest assessment of #Brexit in the Telegraph!
But here it is in all its glory, you just have to read the article to believe it but here’s a taster:
“It was up to Brexit’s political cheerleaders to make something out of Britain’s decision to leave the EU, whatever the obstacles, but they failed. They over promised and under delivered, and the presiding government is now about to reap the whirlwind.
This was not because the bureaucrats betrayed them, or even the rather more credible excuse of the pandemic; it was because the vision of Singapore-on-Thames was always a fantasy that would never be capable of uniting the nation behind it.
Everyone wants low taxes, but on the whole they also want top drawer public services, a credible military, a free at the point of use NHS, and triple-locked state pensions.”
“In all, Truss’s premiership was one of the most humiliating episodes in British economic history since the mid-1970s, when the Government was forced to go cap in hand to the IMF for an emergency bailout.”
“There could scarcely be a bleaker read than the IFS’s latest appraisal of Britain’s tax and spend options. You can fiddle around with detail as much as you like, but the big picture is that there aren’t any.
Three economic shocks in a row – the financial crisis, the pandemic and the energy price shock – in combination with the spending pressures of an ageing demographic and an ever more thirsty military have left the public finances in the most ghastly mess.
Unable or unwilling to take advantage of Brexit freedoms but denied unfettered access to European markets, the wider economy meanwhile splutters alarmingly from one shock to the next, seemingly holed below the water line. Singapore-on-Thames this is not.”

Given that the UK have blocked the Activision Blizzard / Microsoft merger: there is a non-zero chance that Activision Blizzard would just stop operating in the UK to comply/move staff over to the EU, if the UK holds up its decision.
US + EU market >> UK.
Wow.
@British_Airways — it looks like BA2789 is delayed this evening. This would be my sixth (?) consecutive flight with delays on your network, and will incur yet more cost in having to cab home after Thameslink stops. Hard to continue defending flying with you when delays have become the status quo. What’s causing this?
