#EDU6333 Some of my favorite top takeaways from this class: utilizing twitter, Piktochart, following educational hashtags to stay on top of industry trends and the concept of gamification in higher education!
#edu6333@bwatwood posed an interesting question in the discussions this week: "can you teach a person ethics?" Ethics teachers overwhelmingly agree that you can. Here is an article that goes into more depth: https://t.co/oE0GjY7cYU
@bwatwood posed an important question: can you teach a person ethics? According to many ethics professors, the answer is yes! Here is an article that goes into more depth: https://t.co/oE0GjY7cYU
Donโt discount the affect that social media has on our teenagers. They live in a hard world with cyber bullying and crippling student loan debt. This is scary.
#EDU6333 in preparation for next week's conversation, here is an article that just popped up on buzzfeed about the problem with oversharing on social media and how it leads to cyber bullying:
@ElleMHiggins@imiyapan@Melissa68445526@MasiaNeu#EDU6333 Gamifying may also benefit the newest generation of students who have been brought up with technology and with playing games on their cell phones and computers. Colleges are starting to implement this idea into curriculum's as well: https://t.co/Xsj1rBmyU7
@MasiaNeu @LaurenC42893676 #EDU6333 this can also be applied to the workplace. I have learned a lot from the mistakes I've made but too many mistakes can surely lead to no longer having a job anymore. It is all about learning from the mistakes and growing from them to become better.
@StevenC28591147@imiyapan#EDU6333 Agreed Steven. I think that assessment is important but we need to change the narrative around failure and to your point - we may need to change what/how we are assessing students.
#edu6333 Lure of the labryth was an interesting experiment - I had no idea what I was doing or where to put the weird coins. After some time I started to understand and got sucked in!
#EDU6333 I am not ashamed to admit that I have failed many times over my life. Each failure has taught me something and has helped shape who I am today. Arianna Huffington says that "โFailure is a stepping stone to success" and I truly believe that.
Do you have two minutes? Elizabeth wants to hear from you about your priorities for the next president. Fill out this two-minute survey to share what issues are most important to you.
#EDU6333 Example of CC this week: Miley Cyrus says she was "inspired" by art on instagram which she copied for an ad on her own instagram. She is now being called out for stealing the idea without tagging or citing the original artist. No "big C" but didn't ask permission first.
#EDU6333 I had no idea there were so many different CC signs to be aware of: attribution, non-commercial, no derivatives and share alike. Seems easier/less risky to just create your own content!
@ElizabethGruhl#EDU6333 thank you for sharing! My favorite part of this guideline is it's recommendations for use: "Be authentic, accurate and respectful."
@LaurenC42893676 #EDU6333 agreed! Although Facebook has a lot of faults, I do think their "I am safe" notification in emergencies is very helpful to notify friends and family during a crisis.
@imiyapan@MasiaNeu#EDU6333 great article! Glad to see an institution with some of the greatest minds are teaching students (perhaps our next leaders in the tech industry) to look at technology through a new lens. A simple lesson plan that has such a complex lesson.
#EDU6333 Northeastern News strikes again with a very relevant article to this week's readings: "How Does Fake News Spread on Facebook"
