When you talk about “anybody”, Id think that the parents deserve all the trust, as they are usually their superior or their most important “teacher” of what is right and wrong. No other person deserves the abilitymore then the child’s parents themselves. #OJENTMFall21@OJEN_ROEJ
@lucamorrealee@Riyllee@Alexatanas4@OJEN_ROEJ These are classes many parents aren’t willing to take. Putting this power into the wrong hands can go south very fast. We can’t trust just anybody with the ability to use force on children. Also, teachers are not trained to use effective force on kids.2/2 #OJENTMFall21@OJEN_ROEJ
Are you also implying that if a child is inflicting harm to themselves, the proper punishment would be to give them a spanking or give them more “pain”? #OJENTMFall21@OJEN_ROEJ
Are you implying that children should only get spanked if they are a threat to others or themselves? what makes 1 misbehaviour more egregious than the other, and why should the punishment be spanking?

Spanking lawfully is not used to cause pain, it is used to correct a child’s behaviour. There are limits to what a parent can do to inflict “pain”, and ensures the pain is not abusive or unreasonable. #OJENTMFall21@OJEN_ROEJ
@Alexatanas4@OJEN_ROEJ Spanking is used bc it causes pain. It’s supposed to tie bad behaviour with pain, therefore the kid doesn’t want to do it anymore. As for grounding there are other ways to ground children besides pain @OJEN_ROEJ#OJENTMFall21
If you say that parents need to take courses to punish their kids, would you also enforcecourses for other parental responsibilities that can be considered more important or more difficult? Your idea of “power” is inconsiderate to the rules under s43. #OJENTMFall21@OJEN_ROEJ

Regardless of whether it violates their rights, and if it was challenged, (the SCC agreed with the law) it could be passed using the non withstanding clause, which allows certain rights to be limited. @OJEN_ROEJ#OJENTMFall21
@lucamorrealee@Alexatanas4@OJEN_ROEJ Bottom or not, you are in fact hitting your child. You are violating their personal space, their sense of self-worth, and their right to control their own body. #OJENTMFall21
@wessremote@OJEN_ROEJ If the corporal punishment law didn’t exist, it would not permit parents to use as much force as they like, it would instead be considered assault. Any “physical” punishment or in our case spanking, would be considered assault. @OJEN_ROEJ#OJENTMFall21
Romantic relationships and the upbringing of children are 2 different situations. Corporal punishment is directed to kids who are currently learning right from wrong. There is a difference between adult to adult relationships and child to adult. #OJENTMFall21@OJEN_ROEJ
@OJEN_ROEJ There are laws that already regulate intimate relationships (e.g. banning domestic abuse between romantic partners) to protect involved stakeholders. Prohibiting corporal punishment is no different as it preserves the wellbeing of children. @OJEN_ROEJ#OJENTMFall21
Out of all respect, the 2 articles you gave me were the first to show up after searching on google, which proves that you haven’t done proper research. I could also get hundreds of articles that I can blindly send you to prove my point. #OJENTMFall21@OJEN_ROEJ
With respect, this is an entirely different situation. Here we are talking about using reasonable force to correct a child’s behaviour. How often would would parents use self defence on their own child? Self defence and Corporal punishment are completely different. #OJENTMFall21
After analyzing the article, I’ve come to the conclusion that the article Editor and Writer Erin Dower is not an expert in the field, nor has a credible opinion. On another note, the study that the article referred to only talked about 3 year olds. #OJENTMFall21@OJEN_ROEJ
According to the case of the CFCY v Canada (2004) SCC said “Any use of force on a child cannot be degrading, inhumane, or result in harm or the prospect of harm.” Clearly there is a boundary for force that is reasonable under section 43. #OJENTMFall21@OJEN_ROEJ
@lucamorrealee@musheer956@Alexatanas4@OJEN_ROEJ Why risk it? Why risk the possible truama? Where is the line in the sand? The point is to cause pain. If you are gentle you aren't causing pain, and it's pointless. If you hit hard enough to cause pain it's going to cause a child the fear of pain? Why bother with such a fine line
Spanking must be done in a calm and loving environment. Spanking should not leave bruises, marks, or serious pain. For serious behavioural situations, spanking may be necessary because grounding, taking away of objects or a simple time-out may not work. #OJENTMFall21@OJEN_ROEJ

@OJEN_ROEJ The only time laying ur hands on a child protects you is in forms of self defence. If the child is a threat to you or other around you, it is a given that you do what you need to do so no one is unnecessarily harmed. 1/2 #OJENTMFall21
There are some kids who like to push their limits. Just like how “force” varies from case to case, each child is different in their own way. Knowing how your child acts and reacts is the key to nailing down the most effective way of of punishment. #OJENTMFall21@OJEN_ROEJ
@OJEN_ROEJ There is no explicit definition of “force”. It varies from a simple conversation to laying your hand on a another human being. The idea if “justifiable force” varies from person to person and that is just one flaw with this law. #OJENTMFall21
