I made films for Hull Museums. We asked people with knowledge from the local community to speak about black abolitionists. Some finished their films saying most research had been done by white people and asking for more black people to be rearching black history

Beverley Minster would have been very busy. Not only were there sanctuary seekers but many pilgrims worshipping St John. Both brought wealth and prestige to the town.

The Fridstool or Chair of Peace in Beverley Minster. In medieval times people sought sanctuary here. Of Saxon origin only two exist. The other is in Hexham Abbey.

@Bev_Minster In the Medieval period Beverley Minster claimed it's right of Sanctuary was given by King Athelstan. After praying at St John's tomb he won a battle with the Scots. It is celebrated in this 15thC painting.
