🫶🏾 Super excited about all the good that will come from the @WHO’s viral suppression policy brief! It’s a game changer for three key points:
1️⃣ The WHO recommends the use of “zero” risk to describe sexual transmission risk when undetectable & taking treatment as prescribed. This is the first time such a globally influential health entity has recommended that health care professionals use Zero risk. This global credibility of WHO and universal clarity of zero will help us break down the persistent hesitancy to inform people confidently and clearly about U=U. 🗣️We launched the #SayZero campaign at #IAS2023 to raise awareness among the IAS community & online & call for action.
There are also 2 other groundbreaking implications from this brief:
2️⃣ Clarification of “almost zero” & “negligible” risk for folks with suppressed but detectable viral load 200 to 1,000 copied/mL for whom clear guidance was previously unavailable. “Negligible” means the risk is “so low it’s not worth taking into consideration.”(<200 has already been universally accepted as untransmittable) .
3️⃣ Huge potential for scaling up viral load. Any viral load test (including the more scalable dried blood spots) can be used to confirm all three WHO categories of viral load. Countries have more options to make viral load tests more accessible!
When this brief is implemented, millions more people with HIV will have confidence they can love, have sex & make babies without fear! 💕 and will accelerate toward the end of the epidemic!
There’s a LOT of exciting and complex work ahead in all 3 areas. Learn more on Tuesday night! 👇🏾

We won't survive the climate crisis without ending white supremacy. You can’t have climate change without sacrifice zones, and you can’t have sacrifice zones without disposable people, and you can't have disposable people without racism.🔥#FridayMotivation https://t.co/agXoug6qI1
