@TimmeeGrinham @MsahWu It’s not merely suggested: it’s well-known among epidemiologists that a positivity rate >5% - and particularly a positivity rate that continues to increase almost daily - indicates there are many more cases in the community, and that the region has lost control of spread.
@KyleTober @drseanmullen 1. Personal anecdotes aren’t data:

2. Other variables - e.g. vaccinated socialising more in-person, unvaccinated spending more time online (consuming and debating conspiracies on the internet) - affect a person’s FREQUENCY of being exposed to covid.
@OliveFeint@twisted_words@Madiii03 It’s interesting how enforcing a minimum wage, sans tipping, hasn’t decimated or undermined the restaurant industry outside the US (e.g. the UK, Australia).
Australians etc be would be enraged at the *system* that enables a business to operate with wages as pathetic as $2.15/hr.
@PyleOfZander @MichelleObama “[T]he privilege of learning with the best teachers is available to anyone with an internet connection”
This is a very Pollyanna view of a capitalistic society.
Coaching - especially from high-achieving tutors - is rarely free; and teachers/tutors (rightly) don’t work for free.
@BeaniesBestBud @MichelleObama Except ‘merit’ is inextricably tied to privilege/wealth:
“Others go to high schools with lavish resources for tutors and extensive standardized test prep […]. So often, we just accept that money, power, and privilege are perfectly justifiable forms of affirmative action”
@BenjaminYumi8@BrightWolf3 1. Anecdotes aren’t data.

@AMCKunneke@BrightWolf3 Strawman Argument: distorting or misrepresenting someone’s claim in order to make it easier to refute or attack.
Bear in mind that a doctor, actuary, or statistician wouldn’t purport to possess the skills/expertise of a plumber, laborer, or truck driver.

@PizzeyL1@Mon4Kooyong So you’d be alright living in a society that has shortages of nurses, teachers, social workers, psychologists, etc.
Those are all careers that aren’t remunerated well & don’t involve “big corp” sponsorship, but require university degrees that incur large debt.
@Bazcrypt@tbas7000@BrightWolf3 People who emotionally resort to calling other people “idiots” do so because they’ve exhausted their cognitive capacity and can’t come up with a rational counter-argument.
@DALupton I wonder how you feel about approving special consideration for students who do nothing to avoid illness?
Most universities limit extensions & deferred exams to circumstances beyond your control & that aren’t the result of an action or inaction (getting drunk, avoiding sleep)
@MickSanchezAU @nickknightabc@Mon4Kooyong There’s also the fact that CSP fees themselves have sky-rocketed ($15k/yr now for many degrees) to the point where few can afford living + upfront fees.
Add high CPI and the gap between wealthy (whose parents paid upfront) & others further widens (e.g access to higher mortgages)
@markmorey5@Fiestywenchyone@Karina_Melbs@GiffinCoral@ArtistAffame “The world doesn't ow[e] Africans a living so they get by as best they can.”
… Or they just starve & die.
I don’t understand how you would expect a person with severe illness or disability, or of an elderly age, to survive in a country without welfare.

By aspiring to be a health “coach” or some other legally unprotected title, self-styled wellness gurus can obviate expertise, codes of ethics, legal standards of practice, and overall accountability to patient care.
@FireFaerie_ Are you sure you’ve exceeded HELP? HELP debt caps at ~$113k, though it might be easier to exhaust for DFEE/postgrad.
If you’ve had any mental health issues in the past, I hope you’ve been able to apply for fee-remission?
Don’t stress Emma, there are ways to get through this ❤️
