@MattSainsb @ArtistAffame Or at the least no interest/indexation and at the end of your degree you get a letter/ phone call informing you of your total debt and a hey you might not be at the repayment threshold but if you bpay $10 a week here's how much quicker you will pay it off.
@RobertB24039377 @JenHogben@ArtistAffame Also they see the person at their work who quits and isn't replaced immediately so unemployed people must not be trying to hard to get a job, not realising management is seeing if they really need to replace that person.
@RobertB24039377 @JenHogben@ArtistAffame They don't want to see it. Also until it happens to them they go through their lives having a job maybe not a well paying one but they don't really interact with the government esp centrelink unless they are voting so all the see is the media pushing the dole buldger narrative.
Hey folks I've had a massive response to my elephant and there's no possible way to thank everyone for the really lovely comments I've received. Thank you so much the support means a lot ❤️ A digital copy is now available on my kofi site https://t.co/ipnQw0oRmm
@nevaevaevans@Mon4Kooyong ... a part-time job hell, gone on newstart or whatever it was called back then. Instead I had been pretty much drilled into go to uni, get a degree any degree, stay on target even if you fail keep going, don't change course.
@nevaevaevans@Mon4Kooyong They offered these loans to people who were poor, who would have a hecs debt, we were set up for financial failure, while doing something we were told would secure our future. If I'd known then I would have stayed home studied uni part time via distance edu and tried to get...
#BREAKING - Greens just moved an amendment to the JobSeeker Bill to raise all income support above the poverty line.
Labor voted with the Liberals to block it.
Imagine having the power to lift people out of poverty but not using it. That’s Labor.
@CJPomfret@Mon4Kooyong I had no idea when I was 17 and at uni. My parents didn’t know there was interest either. They didn’t really educate us clearly on how HECS worked. It was always thought of as an interest free loan we’d be able to pay back when we earnt the money our degrees promised we’d earn.
@CJPomfret@Mon4Kooyong ...things, hecs was just a form you filled out. Especially after the last few years of high school were you was pushed to get a degree any degree immediately after high school, no well how about trying for a job for a year, studying uni part time etc just straight into full time.
@CJPomfret@Mon4Kooyong Yes but who lets a 17 to 18 year sign up for debt that can follow them forever, that they may end up paying more than how much the degree cost when they got it at 17 which bank would let you sign for that kind of loan. If you went to a bank they generally talk you through...
@MickSanchezAU @nickknightabc@Mon4Kooyong There’s also the fact that CSP fees themselves have sky-rocketed ($15k/yr now for many degrees) to the point where few can afford living + upfront fees.
Add high CPI and the gap between wealthy (whose parents paid upfront) & others further widens (e.g access to higher mortgages)
