The Reproductive Health Equity Act just passed the senate. It now heads to the Governor’s desk for his approval. The debate last night went until nearly midnight. There is a safety clause on the bill which means once it’s signed it will go into effect right away. @DenverChannel
@VMBugsy@fakedansavage That kinda feels like it should be an Onion article. As someone who was raised Catholic (and then got out of there as soon as I could), I don't even know if I'm surprised by this.
I wear a lot of hats, but I've gotten to wear one of my favorites over the past week: being a sweet 3-year-old's "Amandi-kaaki" ❤ I don't want to leave!
On my social work team, we try to honor and remember the people we have served. We each have a jar on our desks and add sand for each client who dies. This is my jar, started about 11 months ago. Some of these people were only on my caseload briefly, but they were here.
How many don't have anyone to remember them? How many more are out there like me, carrying the memories of clients and patients who had no one else?
I will be fine and I'll continue doing this work. But today I'm sad and I'm tired.
I'm a medical social worker. I'm exhausted.
One of my clients died yesterday of COVID. He was mid-60s and had dementia. He previously alienated his family when he struggled with substance use. He had a lot of challenges with his mental health. But he was funny and he was kind.
He deeply loved his wife, though she didn't recognize him the last few years because of her own dementia.
This man existed. He was here. I feel a responsibility to acknowledge that and remember him. He was just one person of so, so many we have lost.
Vaccinated people are like wet logs, unvaccinated like dry kindling. COVID is the fire.
Can wet logs catch fire? Yes.
Can wet logs SPREAD fire once they catch flame? Sure.
But it’s MUCH harder to start a fire with wet logs, and nearly impossible when there’s no more kindling.
@AllieLucas1971 @KelsiaMaria @VP Oxford, Ohio. Not the prestigious university in England. And his PhD is in education, not anything related to medicine or public health.
@drboydsays It's so hard to keep track of each state! Colorado doesn't have LMSW, but I'm guessing it's the same as what we call LSW. Some states have LICSW instead of LCSW... I wish we could just standardize it!
@josephs1969 They did just recently create the SWC credential (Clinical Social Work Candidate) to replace this for social workers and the other mental health professions have a candidate credential as well.
