@roundrock Your Sam Bass Rd construction project just popped the front tire on my car because they haven’t made safe business entrances across the construction. Who can we contact at the city to get this sorted?
@SolidEvidence What kind of regulation and QA has your assay so far been subject to? Have you provided the validation data to CDC for this particular assay? If so, did CDC have any particular concerns about the validity or reliability of the assay?
@SolidEvidence@Teheimar Are there also some considerations of the validity of the testing? It’s probably a lot more complicated than “we don’t know where it’s coming from” as a reason.
Pasteurization has a centuries-long track record of inactivating pathogens. In the modern era, it’s made our milk supply safer than at any point in history.
Fantastic thread compiling the lengthy body of evidence supporting that pasteurization inactivates H5N1 👇
@AntiviralCalli@RickABright Note that the nasal swab tested positive for Flu A. There are literally hundreds of Flu A varieties - you need PCR (which they did) to do subtyping. So this test can maybe detect Flu A (although human sensitivity and specificity in nasal swabs is not great) - but not what kind.
@AntiviralCalli@maolesen Yeah, lots going on that isn’t great, agree. And we need a better handle on the extent and the science surrounding it NOW not later. But that means holding the systems accountable - not panic buying things that have no validity.
Specifically:
-Quantify the extent of the outbreak and begin testing asymptomatic animals immediately
-Testing for virus and antibodies in both cows and farm workers
-Testing other species in and around cattle farms (cats, wild birds, etc. Sure, include pigs if they're there)
@maolesen@ClareTa26975369 Commercially available primers can’t detect H5N1. You need BSL III to even test for H5N1 - no wastewater surveillance testing is using a BSL III. Their primers only are testing seasonal flu A subtypes.
I’m proud of @RoundRockISD for their dual language program and their rules that center ELL students in the program. There are so many benefits of DL programs, but we can’t lose sight of the goals of them: bilingualism, biliteracy, and biculturalism!

The HB 1 voucher would bankrupt Texas public schools.
If just 5% of public school students in @RoundRockISD left with a voucher, Round Rock ISD could lose an estimated $19,437,800 per year.
The total estimated revenue loss across HD52 ISDs is $64,898,520. @CarolineforTX#txlege
@frankstrong Every single time a district gives in and removes book titles, they’re assisting in chipping away at American democracy and ceding to fascism. It really is that simple. And it’s redundant to say it, but, these people will never be satiated.
