#FBAIndianLawConference Tribal judge Amanda White Eagle: tribes can adopt state law provisions for consistency with local law but should do so only when it also reflects tribal values.
Live tweeting the #FBAIndianLawConference2026 - Insight from @MaggieBlackhawk: McGirt’s “At the end of the Trail of Tears was a promise” was not quite right. A treaty is more than just a promise; it is a law.
It is finally here! Eighty years ago, Felix Cohen crafted the "bible" of Federal Indian Law. I long dreamed of contributing to a rare revision. Today that dream is realized: 100 pages marrying constitutional law with Indian law (mostly structural, also rights), clarifying both.
In 1934, the US recognized tribal governments with constitutions. Tribes have been ingenious, despite colonialism. Until now, we lacked a comprehensive database of those constitutions. Thanks to @efieldingd and @bethredbird (and NSF funding) we have one!

Principal Chief @ChuckHoskin_Jr issues a statement after the U.S. Senate confirms former Cherokee Nation Attorney General Sara Hill as the first female Native American federal district judge in Oklahoma.
Deeply sad to learn that John Pocock passed away yesterday at the extraordinary age of 99. The greatest historian of political thought of his generation, he was perhaps the greatest historian of historiography we'll ever see. Il miglior fabbro.
It has been the greatest honor of my career to write the Foreword for this term's @HarvLRev. I am grateful to have been able to tell this story and to tell it from the heart in such a prominent forum. As always, I dream of a day when words can change minds and hearts--and worlds.
