TURDUCKEN:
“This proposal is a turducken, because it is a turkey, that was put together by a bunch of lame ducks by a Republican legislature that is too chicken to confront the structural affordability…” says @RepAndraca during Wisconsin tax rebate/school funding debate.
Wisconsin Assembly Democrats tried to take steps to pull a bill out of committee today that would expand postpartum Medicaid coverage for a year after a child is born, but Republicans blocked it.
The bill has bipartisan support, but Assembly Speaker @repvos opposes it
Marquette Law Poll Director @PollsAndVotes says Democrats picking up 13 seats in the Virginia House is perhaps the most relevant result to Wisconsin, where Dems hope to flip the Senate in '26.
"I do think that Virginia outcome has to catch the attention of state legislators"
Republican budget cuts are going to close two facilities that help veterans experiencing homelessness get back into permanent housing.
Democrats have a bill to keep them open. Republicans have refused to even hold a hearing on the bill. Without funding, they'll close Sept. 30.
@Brandon_Hasz01@DanRShafer You asked a lot of good questions and the answers are available to you if you are genuinely interested. This is what public hearings are for, and why it is so frustrating that my colleagues won’t give these bills a hearing. We need more in-person conversation and civil debate.
@Brandon_Hasz01@DanRShafer Here are bills in the Wisconsin legislature awaiting a public hearing. Republicans have the majority and can vote them down if they don’t agree with a majority of Wisconsin voters. But we need to have the conversation- and not on social media. Proverbs 27:17.
@Brandon_Hasz01@DanRShafer Brandon, you know no law can prevent every mass shooting. But Wisconsin can learn from other states and close the background check loopholes, require safe storage, enact red flag laws, restore 48 hr waiting periods, any of these would save lives.
Back to school should never mean back to school shootings. This is the devastating reality of America’s gun violence crisis—and it will not end until lawmakers take meaningful action.
Text READY to 644-33 to join us in demanding they do just that.
Just announced: State Rep. Robyn Vining is running for State Senate in District 5.
District 5, in Milwaukee's western suburbs, is currently represented by Republican Rob Hutton.
In the 2024 election, this was a Harris+6 and Baldwin+5 district.
People should never fear for their lives because of their service to their community. I grieve with our Minnesota colleagues over the loss of Speaker Emerita Hortman and her husband, and wish Senator Hoffman and his wife strength and a full recovery.
