I asked my community college students to let me know how I did and what I could change about the class going forward. One student wrote she loved my class because it was “the least hostile” of her college classes. Kudos to me.

@MIColleges recommended Guided Self Placement and student ability to opt out of dev ed two years ago. When will @LCCStars adopt???

My greatest accomplishment at this school is convincing them to adopt a directed-self placement tool. Took me 2 yrs to get it done. 1000's of students will never have to pay to take an Accuplacer test. Students can willingly take stretch or not, if they want. You're welcome.

Academics will complain abt the clarity & conciseness of student writing but then write a 200+ word sentence w 15 commas you've got to read 8 times to understand.

@danmartin_7 That is TOO TRUE. Hey!! English teachers, the genre of EMAIL does not give you license to write 2000 words. That is not what the genre was designed for!!

@dowellml @Inframethod I think it matters the most where I teach. It’s a very “old school” emphasis. “Correctness of Citation” it’s a place where “plagiarism” can be detected, etc.
