Ethiopia’s FANO units under the AFNM Menelik 1st and Tewodros 2nd Commands launched a joint offensive today against ENDF positions in the Mekane Selam sector of the Eastern Amhara Front.
ENDF forces sustained casualties, and several soldiers were captured. Fano also seized two DShK heavy machine guns, a sniper rifle, a PKM, Kalashnikov rifles, and other equipment. Footage from the scene shows captured soldiers being questioned after the operation.
Fighters belonging to the Amhara Fano National Movement (AFNM) have captured two dozen Ethiopian National Defense Force (ENDF) soldiers during recent engagements in the Mekdela district of the South Wollo Zone, highlighting the ongoing volatility in Ethiopia's Amhara region.
Statement issued by the Alliance for Survival on the @_AfricanUnion’s Press Release
The Alliance for Survival has read the African Union’s recent press release with deep concern. By portraying the formation of the Ethiopian Peoples’ Forces Alliance for Survival as a threat to peace and stability, the AU overlooks the profound crisis facing Ethiopia and the reasons the Alliance was formed.
Across the country, armed conflict, displacement, economic hardship, and political exclusion have inflicted immense suffering. The conflicts in Amhara, Oromia, Tigray, and other parts of Ethiopia cannot be viewed in isolation. Together, they reflect a national crisis that threatens the lives of civilians, the integrity of state institutions, and Ethiopia’s future. We are concerned that the AU has not responded to this crisis with the urgency and sustained engagement it requires.
The Alliance for Survival seeks to bring together Ethiopians committed to ending violence and preventing further national fragmentation. Its objectives include establishing an inclusive transitional government, facilitating a participatory national and constitutional dialogue, protecting civilians, and creating the conditions for a credible and sustainable political settlement. We believe that a lasting path to peace must meaningfully address the grievances, concerns, and aspirations of communities across Ethiopia.
We respectfully urge the African Union to reconsider its characterization of the Alliance and engage with its stated objectives. The AU should use its influence to help end attacks on civilians, support humanitarian access, and advance an inclusive, nationally owned process for resolving Ethiopia’s conflicts. Ethiopia’s people need a response equal to the scale and urgency of the crisis they face.
The AU has kept silent for 3 years while genocide, crimes against humanity ( recorded and submitted to ICC) take place on its doorstep, choosing comfort of Addis over the plight of the people. This press release affirms that the AU has become an accomplice and not a peacemaker.
Ethiopia’s prime minister once promised a historic transition to democracy. Instead, through guile and brute force, he has personalised power to a degree unseen since the country’s last emperor https://t.co/w2rjn9Cu4z
The government of Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed (@AbiyAhmedAli) and the ruling Prosperity Party have reportedly arrested over 100 youth in #Ethiopia for the "crime" of listening to Teddy Afro’s (@teddyafromuzika) new album, "Etorika." This mass crackdown highlights a deepening suppression of free expression as the artist's work continues to resonate with millions.
Despite the state’s attempts to silence the music, the album has achieved massive reach within days of its release:
⚫YouTube: The lead single, "Das Tal," has already surpassed 7 million views (with some platforms reporting nearly 10 million plays).
⚫Digital Platforms: The album is trending globally on Apple Music and YouTube Music, reflecting a massive, defiant audience.
The arrests target fans of a song that mourns the country’s current state, signaling that the Prosperity Party now views even the act of listening to music as a threat to its authority. This move has not stopped the music; it has only amplified Teddy Afro's message of national grief and the public's demand for change. @BBCAfrica@CNNAfrica@AfricanHub_@AfricanArchives@Joe__Bassey #AFrica #Etorika

🚨From the moment they set foot in #Ethiopia, #Oromos have built their future by tearing others down, using unimaginable cruelty and large-scale destruction. What we are seeing now is simply the continuation of that same mentality. This is happening right now in the #Amhara region as we speak.
They massacred over 21 civilians and burned down their home, and the whole town like this
Yet another ethnic clainsing of Christian Amharas in Arsi, Oromia Region by Abiy soldiers, and it affiliated OLA while the whole world keeps silent. #AmharaGenocide
