FGM/C affects more than 230 million women and girls globally, causing chronic pain, infections, complications in childbirth, and psychological trauma.
At the World Health Summit, we highlighted the urgent need to treat FGM/C as a global health emergency, not a niche cultural issue.
Medicalisation continues to give legitimacy to this harmful practice, even as new data reveals its devastating toll on health systems and survivors.
