So many sites that saw big drops since the start of the core/spam updates had already seen big drops with the HCU.
Some of the types of sites that are seeing big declines (note that many have a poor UX & not great content):
- lyrics sites
- style/fashion/hair blogs
- gaming blogs & sites
- online tools/calculators
- photo editing blogs
- mommy/DIY blogs
The sites where people spend time are not the places that send traffic.
Please don't confuse "sent visits according to our analytics" with "has value as a marketing channel."
What platforms send the most traffic out to the open web? Excellent new research via @randfish
• Twitter (2%) drives less traffic than Facebook or YouTube (3-4%)
• Reddit remains strong at 3.15%
• Google dominates at 64% - investing in SEO remains a smart strategy

Very cool that @anton_shulke and @Giridja put this together. So again, join me and @rustybrick to discuss all things algo updates. We might just have another major update by then...
I think this section from Google in their blog post about core updates is helpful for site owners trying to understand if E-E-A-T is a ranking factor. In particular, this piece -> "...may help align it *conceptually* with the different signals that our automated systems use to rank content."
"Our automated systems use a mix of many different signals to rank great content. We've tried to make this mix align what human beings would agree is great content as they would assess it according to E-A-T criteria. Given this, assessing your own content in terms of E-A-T criteria may help align it conceptually with the different signals that our automated systems use to rank content."

Stop! You need to know this 👇👇👇
Here’s one of the most common mistakes many SEOs make:
They confuse crawling and indexing.
But it’s crucial to know the difference.
Crawling is a process where a bot (such as Googlebot) downloads information about a page, and discovers the content and links on it.
You as a technical SEO control this process through the robots.txt file.
This is the first file Googlebot checks when it “comes” to your website to crawl it.
Indexing is a process of saving your page in the database so that Google can quickly pull those saved pages and show them as search results when people google something.
You as a technical SEO control the indexing process using the meta robots tag.
The issues arise when you confuse robots.txt and meta robots.
The most common issues I see:
❌ Using both robots.txt and meta robots to disable crawling and indexing of a page simultaneously
❌ Using robots.txt to remove the pages from Google’s index
❌ Using meta robots to control the crawl budget
I created an easy scheme to help you never confuse crawling and indexing again.
