The tiny detail no one warned me about before moving to the USA: America’s summer daylight hours have broken my South African internal clock. 😅🇺🇸

These were taken around 6:45 am and 8:30 pm in Florida.

Where I lived in South Africa, summer sunrise was around 5:00 to 5:30 am, and sunset was around 7:00 pm. We also arrived here straight from a South African winter, where it was already dark by about 6:30 pm.

So now my brain is confused, my watch is judging me, and my eyes are lying to me. 🤣

I’ll be outside at 8:00 pm thinking, “What a lovely afternoon,” then I look at my watch and get an instant South African woman jump scare because technically I am outside alone at night. Every fight-or-flight instinct I learned back home switches on immediately.

Friendly warning to my fellow Saffas still waiting to come to the land of the safe and free🇺🇸:

Florida friends, and people living in similar states 🇺🇸 with similar creepy crawlies, we need a survival guide. 😅

We have met a few too many new “neighbours”🕷️🕸️already.

Which ones are harmless?
Which ones bite?
Which ones are call-911-if-bitten?
And which ones get the full “absolutely not” treatment?

So far, we have met a red/orange snake and what looks like widow spiders.

Please educate the newly arrived South Africans before we accidentally invite danger noodles and murder buttons into the family. 😂
