For sake of illustration, if a Muslim went to SLC or Provo, UT, the "capital for Mormonism" in the US, should he expect to be beaten? No. How about in high Catholic or Protestant areas, is assault ok there? No.

He did not initiate an altercation with them...they approached him and immediately became confrontational and violent. They have no right to touch him in any way. Alone or not alone. They should be arrested.
